G Wagen ?

Anyone had one? I've been offered on relatively cheap, and I'm tempted to buy it for the winter. It's an old but solid 300GD. Doing a bit of research, they seem to be a good alternative to an old Disco Thumbs Up

Rust rust and more rust

If the one you are looking at is solid it's probably been faked up for the sale Whistle

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Bonatti Grey

More than likely im afraid as i saw one at a breakers a fe years back, on an J plate i think it was and it was like a bad pear Sad

Looked ok from uptop as it were but as i could see underneath it on top of the other cars it was on it looked bad Confused

If its really that cheap then buy it and once the snow has cleared stick it out the front and move it on sharpish or keep it and run it into the ground and use it for offroad fun at some pay n play sites as they can take some abuse as long as it doesn't involve to much oxidisation of course Very Happy

1988 300D, 128k, FMBSH, Good condition (although not seen in the flesh yet) SWB.

He's wanting just under £3k for it - Which I thought wasn't bad, but now having read your links - I'm thinking maybe not ..

Might go for a good old 90 / 110 instead. It was the 3x locking diffs that attracted me to the G's, very capable off roaders Very Happy

Hi -
I'd have a look if I were you . . .
Whereas your civilian Land Rover was adapted for civilian use, with the G Wagen it was the other way around.
When you think about the drive train it's more like a Unimog !

"Nothing ventured, nothing gained"

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I had one 20 years ago and it was excellent. I've got friends who still swear by them
I'd definately look at it Regards

They are very good vehicles. And for tooling around off-road, they are amazing. A 300GD will leave you feeling like you have to get out and push on acceleration, though - even at 45mph! Razz

Rust is a problem. Definitely. But rust or shoddy repairs can be seen. The G is an honest vehicle. If you are unsure, take someone who knows older cars.

And I wouldn't buy one for long trips.

The reason I became a Range rover nut in the first place is because I actually wanted a G but didn't like the way older G's 'felt' on the motorway. I was always stressed at over 50mph (if you know what I mean). But I thought RRs (LRs actually) were all cr@p due to their electrics. Then I drove my future pop-in-law's RRC to the south of France and back for the first time (and went off roading while there)... Have yet to look back (as you can see in my sig).

United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black

When I was in Dubai last week I haad a few rides in a G55 AMG.

I've never been in a 'G' so it was an eye opener. This thing had every single option on it and although an old design, was nice inside. But the best thing was the quad side exit exhausts and the NOISE! Cool WOW.

Lovely, just lovely.
