SKY HD box problems

Just wondered if anyone else has had the problems we are getting with our SKY + HD box and can shed any light on it.

When you select to go to the EPG, the box reacts as if you have pressed a button twice, so you see the EPG and then BANG! Straight into BBC1.

It seems to do this with all sorts of commands, like paging through the EPG it will do 2 pages in quick succession when you press the button on the remote once. If you go to play a recording it skips past the info screen and just starts playing.

We now have another new problem. Recordings are failing, and what seems to occur is that the channel you want to record shows as "No satellite signal is being received" however if you go up one channel then back down, the signal is fine and the programme is playing as normal.

It's driving me potty! Censored

I know that if I ring SKY they will want to send someone out with a callout fee and then say I need a new box at £250.

Any ideas from the collective? Discovery 4 HSE

Have you tried powering the box off for a while? Also have you tried clearing it of dust with a hoover as they can overheat?

What type of box is it? Thomson or samsung?

I believe the most common issue is a power board failure and that these can be bought if you want to replace it yourself.

Personally i just take out a new 12month contract every year to get a new box and install to get it all checked over Smile

The power off thing is a regular occurence as it freezes up so often and the remote won't work.

Was just reading on the SKY Support site about the planner rebuild so may try that, trouble is it will wipe stuff off and the Wife will go MENTAL when Biggest Loser is not there...

there's no dust on it, it's very well ventilated and the remote batteries are new. We have two remotes and it happens with both, so it's an issue with the box. Discovery 4 HSE

Just tried the planner ebuild and it wont get to that menu! Censored

I get a message saying "menu not available while 2 recordings are in progress", but there are NO BLOODY RECORDINGS in progress.

Power it off then as that could be the cause and its taking up processor time and slowing your box down and thus causing issues.

The top of the box may not look dusty but i bet the fan has been pulling dust inside it, hoovering right onto the vents should help relieve some of it as it acts as a blanket and kills electrical components Sad
