Sport mode?

OK so I've had my ffrr for a few weeks now and really loving it Very Happy

I reversed off the drive today pushed it into Drive and it slipped to the side and "sport mode" came up
on the dash!! Now I knew you could drive it in manual mode but I didn't realise it had a sport mode.

Is this "Sport" a bit like the overdrive button I had in my old Dolly Sprint or does it actually do something?? Range Rover Autobiography 5.0SC

Sport holds the gears for longer before changing up, and changes down sooner.

I must admit to loving mine. It was my second car in a fetching maroon (hide the rust well Wink )
I remember my dad helping me put weber carbs on it Cool

I still to this day don't believe the overdrive button did anything but it was good to show off as a 17 year old. Range Rover Autobiography 5.0SC

I had a 1500 for my first car, £50 off my aunt. It struggles a bit up hills she said - took it for a service and the mechanic said 'I'm not bloody surprised, it's got no oil and it's running on 3 cylinders'. Quick service and it was good as new (sort of).

Fantastic car, went like a rocket (or seemed like it to 18 y.o. me), a little noisy at speed, got pulled over once after whizzing past a policeman who was dealing with somebody at the roadside. He said I've got no idea what speed you were doing, but from the sound of it, far too fast for the car.

Somebody wrote it off, and their car, when they ran into the back of it, well at least it was an insurance write off, needed no work whatsoever! Just a little dent and ripple.

Happy days! Thumbs Up

P.S. Sports mode is pretty much a waste of time. It choses the gear change map which it'll select anyway if you drive in a 'sporting' way. I guess it's just a convenient way of forcing the change if you want it instantly. You can nearly always get the same results with enthusiastic application of the loud pedal! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

A mate of mine has a 1500HL, ropey as hell to look at, different shades of blue paint on every panel, 2 pairs of different wheels and a Rover 3.5 V8 under the bonnet. Proper motor. Cool 2006 Mercedes CLS

I had an 1850HL in the dark red kinda colour and it was the rustiest bucket I ever had and for some reason it had a ferocious appetite for front headlights - I must have changed about 6 in the year or so I had it!

I think the overdrive button just dropped the revs by 1,000 IIRC Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

The dolly overdrive was an addition to the gearbox and actually increased the gearing in third and top gears effectively giving you a six speed box.

Stripped and rebuilt mine when repairing the gearbox.

Sport mode on the RR should be renamed 'drink more fuel' mode.

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

First car was a Herald, lovely little red number. Easiest car to work on ever.
Dad used to driver Triumphs and taught me to drive in a 1500TC, the best maintained car in the world. He was (still is) very particular on maintenance and would check it every week, maintain it in perfect condition forever. Lovely cars.
Dolly Sprint was always one of my favourite cars until I found Alfa Romeos with their much better handling (and higher corrosion and breakdown rate)

On sports mode, it is nice to make the compressor howl a bit more/longer Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
