Replacing Bluetooth module, to be set up by dealer or not?

The bluetooth module in my RR is faulty and having enquired with the local dealer they tell me that a new one will need to be 'coded and configured' by them to my car. Does anybody know if this is correct? I was on the understanding that they are 'plug and play' as another member on here offers an exchange and upgrading service for working modules which unfortunately does not include mine.

This sounds a little fishy to me. I simply replaced mine and that was that, works properly now.

I'd get a replacement from WIGGS - a fellow member. MY2007 Vogue SE TDV8 - Tonga Green / Sand

Same here, got a new one from Wiggs, updated version as well, plug and play and works like a charm. If the car wasn't outfitted with one from the factory (or dealer) before, then it may need setting in the Car Configuration software. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The dealer's spinning you a line. You have exactly the same car as me and when I enquired about coding mine to allow iPhone address book capability, they "suggested" that any firmward updates on my exisiting BT module might not work, but I'd have to pay anyway!

Got an upated module from Wiggs at a very competetive price, removed the old one, put in the new one in about 10 minutes and all was well! The only issue you might have is that Wiggs does a swap deal, and if yours is faulty, that could be a slightly different scenario for him supplying a working, updated module in exchange for a faulty out of date one.

This kind of missinformation from dealers really p155es my off!!!

It was my local dealer that first said that it would need to be coded and configured to my car although he also told me that the part was not in stock at LR not even for VOR cars. I then contacted another dealer to check availability and price on the same part number who quickly informed me that it was immediately available and for £127 less than my local, but without prompting said i would have to go to a dealer to get it set up for my car. I can never understand how identical parts can have different prices at LR dealers, i have never had this with any other car i have had before!

I have already contacted Wiggs who is unable to take a faulty module in exchange as this clearly cannot be updated and passed on to another member. He also does not have any modules on a non exchange basis to sell unfortunately.

The question in my mind is are the dealers correct that a 'brand new' module will need to be set up as the same module is also fitted to the RR Sport and Discovery models as opposed to a used or Wiggs exchange unit which has already come from a FFRR and therefore is already set up for that model.

Possibly i might have to buy one and then find out if the dealers were telling the truth or not. Rolling Eyes

I can't see a difference between a "new" module and a "used" one from elsewhere, with the exception of the firmware level, so even if you get an old working one, maybe Wiggs could do an exchange deal on that one? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Dealer is talking complete botox!

It's the same unit for d3/rrs/Ffrr

Just buy one from Yeovil LR or duckworths and Plug it in in place of your old one.

Are you sure it's faulty? Who diagnosed it. What are the symptoms?
