iPhones set for supermarket shelves
Tesco will start selling the iPhone 3G and the 3GS model in 100 stores
Supermarket giant Tesco will start selling the iPhone 3G and the 3GS model in 100 stores and on its website from December 14.
The phones, known for their sleek style and touch screen technology, will be available from £222 on a £20 a month contract.
Customers will also be able to sign up to a 12-month contract for the first time.
"iPhone is now available and affordable for all, with the best deals in the UK market," said Lance Batchelor, chief executive officer of Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms.
"This is a fantastic announcement for us and we're delighted to make iPhone available to our customers. It shows what a serious player in the mobile market Tesco Mobile has become."
The iPhone has become a must-have gadget since its launch with its array of applications allowing it to be used as anything from a dictaphone, torch, spirit level, compass or video camera.
Users can also access the internet on the go and send and receive emails.
When the 3GS was first launched in the UK this June it cost up to £538.30 if bought as a pay-as-you-go handset. The cheapest way to get one was to sign up for a 24-month contract paying £45 a month.
The seemingly endless advances in mobile technology took another twist today with rival firm Motorola launching its new Milestone smartphone.
Costing up to £449.99 or under £50 a month on a contract, it boasts the world's thinnest sliding keypad which is just over 13mm thick.
