Air-Heated seats Vs Electric Version: How does yours work?

Because I'm lucky enough to have a Vogue SE the heated seats are combined with the cooled seats and are therefore air blown rather than electric elements. (Turn the dial left for cool, right for heat)

Electric versions always work brilliantly, quickly and get lovely and toasty. Had them in the TD6 Vogue.

I find the air blown version slower to warm up and also, my main bugbear is that I don't think the footprint of the warm air is very good. Let me explain and you can tell me if you have found the same;

The VSE seats are perforated in the centre of the seat squab and back, and this is where the air is pushed through to heat (or cool). When my seat is being heated I don't think that all the perforations are used, it only seems to come out in certain areas, and my perforations are NOT blocked up as I have double checked and hoovered them, you can see the material beneath.

Also, the electric ones in my TD6 heated the side bolsters of the seat base, the air version can't, as there's no perforations there, which is frankly, crap.

I think that LR should have kept the heating the same and had the air part for cooling only.

Has anyone else with the air cooled/heated seats found the same? I just don't think they are as good. Discovery 4 HSE

Air Heated/Cooled Front and Rear which I believe is unusual as normally the rear is kept as electric. I think they work very well if I'm honest and provide a much 'nicer' form of heat than electric elements.

I'm just talking about the fronts, the rears are electric heated and were not air heated until either 2010/2011 RR Spec when they introduced cooled seats in the rear. Discovery 4 HSE

I agree, I actually thought the heaters were faulty when I started the car and left it to stand for a few minutes when we had a bit of a frost a few days ago and still felt less than hot when I returned a few minutes later.

I didn't realise they were air and not electrical, and like you I also find the areas that are heated seem very specific compared to the electric ones I've been used to.

I guess it's the price we pay for the cooling option? Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Surely they could be retrofitted at a cost?

Do you guys actually find you use the cooling option that much?

The cooling function is really good on long journeys when your arse goes numb, and also in hot climates, used it all the time in France this year. Discovery 4 HSE

I think the rear seats are heated electrically unless the electric reclining seats are specified as these are air heated and cooled like the fronts.

Mine are air front & back, but I do have the rear recline option.

I've never had electric so unfortunately can't compare. The heat & cool air distribution is perfect for me, but it would be nice for cold days to have instant heat which you of course don't get with air until the engine starts to warm.
I thought I read somewhere that the webasto heater might come on to warm up quicker when needed, so maybe it's just not been that cold yet ?

I also use the cooling more than the heat, but wifey is other way round.

I'd give it a 9 out of 10 just because it's not instantanous.

I have the air-cooled/heated and the electric rears, and in my opinion they are bloody marvelous. It doesn't get that cold here though, so I use the cooling more, which ensures I stay fresh and cool all day Smile

edit

but I can't compare with LR versions, only my beemer (X6) which had electric heated, and they were great too

the cooling is something else though
