Im sure this will have been discussed many times but the more i read the more i confuse myself at times so can anyone confirm the differences between the black 2002 - 2005 wheel nuts and the newer ones that appear chrome please?.

I have a 2007 MY TDV8 and when fitting some 20" genuine AB wheels last week i noticed that they didnt screw onto the bolts as much due to the wheel design as they did on the 22" aftermarket wheels i removed.

Im having to return the 20" so am now back in the hunt for some and if i go aftermarket will the holes in the wheels need to be different to suit my 2007 nuts or will they all work ok, im confused already

May end up going back to 22", Stormer style perhaps or 2011 AB style but am unsure. Will RRS wheels fit these nuts also?. Just looking at all options if i cant find FFRR wheels that i want.

carl, the pre-facelift fullfats [2002-2005] have black nuts with a 20mm shank where as the facelift [2006 onwards] have silver nuts with a 23mm shank.

so any wheel that was fitted to pre-facelift ranges will have to have the black nuts, and any wheel from a 2006 onwards must have the silver nuts..

generally you can tell which wheels are which.

as for after market wheels ,well thats a minefield tbh..

So the outside diameter of the nuts are bigger on the silver ones then?. If looking i would need to know the diameter of the holes to find out if the nuts are compatible?.

the shank diameter is bigger at 23mm ..you can normally tell which wheel is pre-facelift or not.

a good way is to look at ranges on ebay ..see what year they are and look at the wheels, granted there will be older ranges with newer wheels but it'll give you an idea....

Cheers scarey, i kind of know the facelift ones but its when im looking at aftermarket i wasnt sure if the nuts would be ok or not.

So anyone with black nuts have the smaller of the two then?

i would be very weary of aftermarket wheels carl, they probably wont be up to the job because of the weight of fullfat..we keep on hearing about 22'' for instance that have cracks or splits in the wheel...i know theres not that much of a choice but i would stick to landrover OE..

At a glance, pre facelift wheels have BMW 5mm holes between each wheel nut (something to do with tracking machines i think) whereas post facelift "Jaguar" cars only have dimples where the holes are on the earlier models...

Obviously only talking about OE wheels not aftermarket...

The dimensions of the two different wheel nuts are obvious when you insert them onto the wheel (try this before mounting the wheel) New style nuts will not fit onto earlier wheels and old style nuts will be loose in the aperture of the new wheels.

The length from the washer to the end of the nut is 20mm on both types but the end where the socket fits is longer on the new type and will therefore stick out further.

Does the RRS share the same nuts such that i could in theory go for some RRS with 275 45 20 tyres fitted like scarey has previously suggested to me

Anyone know the correct part no for the 2007 FFRR TDV8 wheel nuts?. I found i had a different one on one of the front wheels which needed a different wrench to loosen as the hex head was bigger than the rest. Needless to say i want to change it.

Ive seen ads listing RRS ones and it doesn't list the FFRR as compatible, but they look like mine, so they are the same then, right?

I have to admit. I still don't fully understand this. So if you want to use newer alloys from 2006 onwards on a ffrr 02-05 you can't use the same wheel nuts you have? If not which ones do you buy? If you buy the newer ones from 2006+ they are not going to fit on 2005 rr's so what do you use?

Is this because the holes in alloys 2006 onwards have different hole sizes?
