Bonnet Cable

Hi Guys,
Serviced the car yesterday and very pleased with the results. Left the car on the flat and level overnight to recheck the oil, pulled the handle to open the bonnet and bang! Cable snapped, managed to remove the lower trim and opened the bonnet using pliers but now need to replace the cable. Has anyone done this? I've looked through RAVE but cant find anything. Does anyone have the part number? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Can't help with the part number but the easiest way to replace bonnet cables is to leave the old sleeve in place and just slide the new cable thro it.

I had the same problem a few months back. the part numbers are as follows:

FPF500010 - Bonnet release cable
FSC000020PVA - Bonnet release lever

The bonnet release cable comes in 3 parts. One from the lever to a connector under the bonnet above the drivers side front wheel, from the connector to the drivers side bonnet lock and then a centre piece between the 2 locks. Unfortunately I don't have all of the part numbers.

The issue I had was the centre cable sheath was broken and the cable inside was corroded and ceased. You replace this by removing the front grille and headlamps. Then unbolt the upper front member. The cable is clipped under this and you need to flip it over to access. To real ease the cable remove the 3 retaining bolts for each lock.

The other 2 cables are easier as there is less disassembly. The front section is just a case of unclipping and replacing. The rear section that runs from the release lever is a 2 man job to feed it from the cabin and reach down to pull through into the engine bay. Other than than just route it to the connector.

Lubricate the connector block to ensure long life and you are done.

As an aside the module behind the bonnet release handle is the lighting control module. The plugs for this should be forward facing and the bevelled edge rear facing, this allows unobstructed operation of the release handle. Mine was installed incorrectly and fouled the levels causing it to shear.

I hope this helps

Great stuff. Mines snapped at the lever end. How easy is it to tread the new one through the fire wall? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

I am interested in the "Exact" details of how you opened the bonnet without the cable?

Which trim piece did you remove to get at the catches?

Gary

I have had the cable for a lllloooooonnnnngggg time but still haven't changed it due to moving house. My cable snapped at the lever end so removed the lower R/H trim by the accelerator and just used pliers to pull the cable. It looks pretty easy to change the first section. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]
