United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black
Roof Tent for 06 Supercharged

Having to Grandsons it struck me camping may be a bit of fun next year. What i would like to do it get one of those tents that go on the roof, like some of the more rugged expedition types i have seen.Does anyone know if are available or has anyone done this ? I look forward to any advice from the FFRR knowledge bank out there.

Thanks

I dont think they are available for the FFRR.

Maybe look at the fold out trailer type ones.

My local independent does them (Nene Overland) - not seen one on a FFRR but they may do them - try contacting the manufacturer -

I am sure that you can get such a thing. Nene overland is probably a good place to start. I believe that the people who took a FFRR from London to Cape Town had a roof tent and their car was prepped by Nene...

Roof tents generally don't have proprietary racks - they're universal and you need a rack to mount them to. The tent dealers will help you out. Most racks will more than suffice for general use - the tents weigh around 30kg. And you don't need much more load capacity than that because, while with 2 people in a RTT you'll likely have 150kg+, it is a static load. The load capacities on racks are for a dynamic load (potholes, etc.). If you do heavy off roading you'll need more capacity.

I built a custom (bespoke for most of you guys Cool ) rack for 2 RTTs on my P38 using all 6 mountings - haven't used the L322 for camping yet. Will, tho. And will likely mount just one tent to the expedition rack.

Got the Howling Moon roof tent that I used with my Disco 300TDi.
I sat it on 3 Thule gutter mount bars
Just need a roof rack now. Sad
I was given a rack for my TD6 but it turned it was from a P38, so close but not quite right.
They are not very common in NZ.

Not at all! You can go anywhere you would normally go in your FFRR, and then setup camp in under 2 minutes (for my tent) or around 5 minutes for the fold-out style ones! Compared to the agony that is assembling a normal ground tent, pegging it in, getting wet, etc, it's bliss!! Current fleet:
BMW 330Ci M-Sport coupe - daily driver and long distance cruiser
Range Rover Classic Vogue SE (3.9 V8 on LPG, soft dash model with EAS) - weekend car and generally uneconomical runabout
Suzuki GSX-R750 K6 'Stealth' - trackdays and high speed touring!
