Got a Friend to look at the bonnet switch and he cleaned it. This was on Saturday and it has not gone off since. Still cant work out why it went off at the same time each but hopefully all well now. Thanks for everyones help.

At the risk of incurring Scarey's wrath about searches again... ( Embarassed ) I'll post this in here as a vaguely related thread.

I've got an alarm problem. It goes off when I unlock the car. Seems unrelated to time / temp / whatever.... I'll take a look at the bonnet sensor tomorrow, but any ideas in the meantime welcome. Graham

strange one this graham, alarm going off when locking i can understand but when unlocking ?....

i would suggest someone has messed with the car whilst locked and for some reason the alarm only came on when you unlocked ,or the old bonnet switch playing up.

btw i dont wrath anyone graham.. Laughing ... - .- -.

If the car is parked in the same spot every night the sun hits it around the same time every morning heating up the tinwork, so by 8:00-8:15 every morning there is enough heat on the bonnet to allow it to expand just enough to trip the switch....

Yes, but that's not my symptom at all. It goes off when you unlock it. Tried the other key, same behaviour.

Bonnet switch next. Graham

I doubt if your problem is a bonnet switch, but it can't do any harm to check.

My thought is water causing a short circuit somewhere in the alarm system

Well, I can now report as follows...

Have disconnected the bonnet switch. Somewhat surprisingly, problem appears to have gone, spent about an hour of open/shut action, probably done it 20 times or so.

So, although probably too early to be sure, this looks like a new symptom of the same problem.

Next q is how do I get the bonnet switch out? Graham

Laughing Very good. I might try that. Or just leave it disconnected for a week first. Graham

I just remembered the other thing I did was to stick a little rubber pad on the bonnet where the switch touches to push it a bit further home Smile Geoff

Cool, thanks. I can test the switch easily enough too. Seems very flimsily mounted, just clips in. Graham

One week on, my alarm problem has definitely gone. No issues. Yay Thumbs Up

Have removed the switch (a BMW part... Shocked ) and it's sticky. See what a bit of WD40 might do, have also PM'ed Dan for a price for new one. Graham
