Just got FFRR TD6 - things to check over?

Hi Everyone

Just got my FFRR TD6 - 06MY (47k miles)

On a steady (70mph on cruise) run down to cornwall from the midlands I got 26.5mpg and I was expecting a little more than that after reading all of the posts on here about nearly getting 30 etc.

This was measured from the onboard computer but I wondered if there are things I can check/do to make sure my car is in tip-top condition to ensure its getting the best it can?

It's got 20" LR wheels on BTW.

I'm thinking - flame traps / breathers? Injector cleaner? Vpower diesel for a tank or two?

etc etc.

Either that - or just tell me if the near-30 mpg is a myth!

And before anyone starts on with the FFRR owner moaning about MPG - I'm not, I can afford to run it (whatever it costs) but I just want to make sure its running at it's best.

Will,

I did an 800 mile run down to the south of france in the summer, with the french payage routes on cruise the whole way. MPG didn't get above 25 really (I even had the cruise on non stop for over 200 miles at a time) so for the UK, 26.5mpg is pretty good. If you do decide to have your engine chipped or remapped then you'll see a slight drop in economy, mainly because you'll be using the additional power you gain (And thoroughly enjoying it Thumbs Up )

I think that 30mpg is a myth, you could do it in a D3 doing 70mph but not a FFRR. Its part of what makes a FF so special, cos not everyone wants to put up with the fuel costs. Discovery 4 HSE

I found this thread interesting: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic878.html
Apparently it's better (anyway cheaper) than any additive...

Welcome itguy Thumbs Up

On a trip in my TD6 (55k) on cruise at around 70mph i only get the same 26.5 mpg on average Crying or Very sad

It could be worse as i also run a Nissan Nivara and on average it only does 19 Big Cry

I dont think that computers are that accurate, do the maths and that will give you the true figures Thumbs Up

Thanks everyone - will see how it goes.

Might stick a run of redex diesel through it too just to see what happens.

The 2T oil stuff seems interesting too, might give that a go at some point as some of the people on the RRSPORT forum were getting great results, but obviously that was a differnet engine (TDV6).

I just have a feeling my car has been previously wafting about and is probably very coked up with soot - just needs a bit of a clean out!

come on ITGUY, 70 mph Shocked Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter theres no wonder she needs a decoke, take it to a private road and hammer the nuts off her, that will clean everything out. chipped versions of the TD6 will pull 120 easily (despite what LR says) and that was in a friends car before he bottled out going any faster. The RR had a Snooper equipped with a SAT Speedo - the car speedo was only 1 mph out!

Yes yes, I know I need to do that too but the wife has been in the passenger seat for all the time I've owned it so far so can't Smile

Have just put some diesel ecomax millers treatment in it and driven 15 miles from Truro to Newquay and got 31.4mpg!! We'll see how it goes on the way back later too but its looking better almost straight away.

Never totally trust the computer, do your own sums over a tank of fuel, that will tell you the real picture Discovery 4 HSE

well i suppose I should see what a standard one is like before you get it chipped - that would have me driving from yours, straight to the dealer Sad
