A friend of mine is toying with buying a V8 diesel, what sort of mpg on a long run and around down would you get?

3.6 or 4.4???

Jeez send it back if you can't get 5.0

I get about 28 (real world, brim to brim) on a run and 24 knocking around locally. Standard unmapped 3.6 TDV8. Graham

Hi i bought my 3.6 TD V8 about 4 Months ago i am getting 26.5 mpg that has been the average. I live in Cornwall and drove up to London and back a few weeks ago with 3 pasangers and 4 large cases and i averaged 29.5 which i thought was excellent. I have been told that if i got the Range Rover re-mapped i would have 50hp more and around 15% better mpg but i am not sure this is true?

I got my 2007 MY TDV8 remapped a week ago and whilst it has increased the power no doubt, the fuel economy hasn't changed one bit, not sure if something is a miss but i was getting 24.7 then and after a reset and a weeks driving it now shows 24.6

I drive the same route and havent been going crazy enjoying the power, if anything ive been trying to see the mpg go up but failed

More power and more MPG? I think you've been confused. You can't get both from a remap

Thrasher, its you who is mistaken. With diesels you get exactly that. Bluefin from Superchips even offer your money back if you don't get more mpg despite 50 bhp increase.

I asked them why I didn't get more mpg and they are that sure I should they have sent me another map and asked me to try it and report back.

Petrol maybe not, TDV8, you do.

Turbo diesel - you can if you go to JE
plus 3mpg and 50 horses!

In the REAL world, you can *use* the power, or drive carefully. You can't *use* the power AND get more MPG, it just doesn't work that way.

P.S. There's no need to remap petrol.....

yes but you are missing the point totally!

If you drove flat out everywhere then yes you might be right. However. the point of a remap on a TD is that if you drive normally you get more MPG, and if you want the power it is there when you jump on the throttle.

Having owned Land Rovers since the early 1970's and having also owned and driven RR and Turbo diesels for the last 25 years I am speaking from experience. I also own V8 petrol RR's so I am not biased either way - unlike some petrol heads who refuse to be educated!

I am not a "petrolhead", I am a realist. You can't have *both* and use *both*. I have 510bhp, if I drive like a tit I can get 11mpg, if I drive sensibly I can get 26mpg.

I just get off when people claim that a remap gives them more power AND better mpg. They are missing the point, which you are not thankfully.

1). My MPG average went from 23 up to 26 o/a brim to brim.

2). The remap also gives approx 50 bhp extra.

Doesn't matter how you want to put it I am still better off by 3mpg and the extra power is there if I boot the motor to overtake. Thats it, it couldn't be more simple.
