2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zermatt Silver
20" Wheels

Hello All

Well ive gone and done it, Put a Deposit down on a 04 TD6 vogue, Laughing

I have a question if anybody can help

It has 20" wheels but only an 18" Spare

Can a 20" wheel fit in the spare wheel well or is 18 as big as will fit?

Cheers

Not sure about the answer to your question but speak to the dealership about putting 20" alloys on a TD6. My local dealership said no because you get a vibration when the car is idling - say sat at a junction etc.

This why most of them are on 18 or 19 inch versions.

Yeh the 20's did cause a vibration when idling, think the problem was sorted on the 06 model (05 onwards) year when the supercharged was introduced

I have a facelift 06 MY but I wouldn't put 20 inch wheels on it, after going through several sets on my last car (RRS Supercharged) they are completely useles and totally gauranteed to get scuffed, marked and dinged. That's just on the road, don't even think about taking them off road.

I'd go for the current 19" as the only upgrade, being able to bounce of kerbs when parking is much nicer than hearing that horrible graunching sound as your prized alloys get ruined.

On the Question of 20"

The Standard size on mine is 255/50/20

What other sizes are fitted to 20's

I also believe the rolling circumference of the 19" tyres/wheels are the same as the 18" versions but not sure of the difference with the 20" ones. Discovery 4 HSE

I also wouldn't go the 20" route - not only do I not like the 20" look, but the ride is poor, causes bangs and jolts through the suspension and is very suseceptible to damage. They are OK though on perfect roads without Kerbs!

Tyre sizes :-

255/60/18
255/55/19
255/50/20

all have the same rolling radius. As the rim diameter goes up, the aspect ratio decreases, i.e. 60 down to 55 to 50 etc... to keep the overall rolling radius the same.

Although I have 19" on my vehicle, the 18" are definitely the most comfortable and I have hit huge kerbs and used them off road with absolutely no damage of any sort - the 19" are a good compromise though

I'm told because of the brakes I have 19" is my only option but do agree the 20" ride is a little harsh

Sorry to hijack the thread but I haven '04 Vogue and it came with 20" wheels with 275/40 tyres. I am reliably informed that the wheels are from the RR Sport and it appears the tyres are standard for that model. I was going to change the tyres to 255/50 as it is obviously affecting my speedo etc but now I am worried that the wheels and nuts may not be the right offset etc and could do more harm. Can anyone advise if the RR Sport wheels are OK fitment wise for the RR Full Fat. They are 10 spokes with one and ywo dimples alternating between each pair of spokes. Thanks in advance.

Ah well disagree on your 20" verdicts , I have had them on the FFRR since new 06 and not once have they been Kerbed , Scuffed ,or Dinged .

But then again there's Drivers and there's DRIVER'S ................... Whistle

I run 20" Genuine Range Rover Alloys with 255 50 20 Contis and although ride is not as good as on 18" & 19" i dont have any vibration and have never kerbed or dinged them to date. Appearance wise and for general motoring i think 20's look far better but if i ever went off road then i would put a set of 19"s on with some decent tyres.

255 50 20s is the only option on 20" ffrr's

Re StevieH's point, your tyre profile of 275 40 20 are for the RR Sport. Without seeing any pics or part no i cant say if the wheel is for the RRS or FFRR. Generally the RRS 20" wheels are normally wider. FFRR 20" wheels are normally 8 1/2 J or 9J x20. Your FFRR wheel nuts are smaller as standard than on a facelift car and many people dont upgrade to the larger nuts when they put on the newer model wheels!!! Very Dangerous and can lead to serious issues!!! If you post some pics of your wheel and tyre i can tell you. Please make sure you have the correct nuts for the wheels!!!!!

There was no mention of you going off-road with 20" wheels as to cause scuffs and dings , as i just assumed that when doing so you would have changed to 18"/ 19" what with you being right into that sort of Redneck /Lumberjack /Mountain Goat off roading sort of stuff .

Granted i don't do off-road , don't see the appeal to it .

Plus i never bought a RR to earn it's keep , that's why they made Van's .

Perhaps I should have said "only certain people are daft enought to take their 20" alloy shod RR off road and ruin them...twice!"
