Dilemma: opinions wanted...

Evening Gents,

I just wanted the advice of you knowledgeable chaps on whether to modify my Range Rover and whether to go for a new L322 or wait and get an L405. Currently my car is in standard trim, and I intend to keep it for life, but have 4 options available to me.

1) Keep the car standard and enjoy it for what it is; a timeless classic, though I may get the side vents painted in body colour ala early Autobiography models (and/or go for option 4)
2) ‘Upgrade’ the bodywork to the 2006 supercharged model (and/or go for option 4)
3) ‘Upgrade’ the bodywork to the 2010 Autobiography model
4) Funds permitting... wait and then either buy a 2012 Range Rover with all the trimmings or wait even longer and get an L405.

Option 4 confuses me slightly; if I buy a 2012 L322 Range Rover Autobiography at the end of its production then I may find myself tempted buy an L405 on its release. But then if I hold out for an L405 and find out that it is too flashy (like the Evoque IMO) then I will be too late in getting an L322 built to my specification.

So, what is it to be guys?

Seriously i'd get the 2012 one you want as being the end of the run you may get it cheaper, specially if just before the l405 is launched Smile and get more toys and so fourth for less outlay.

Keep yours standard as it is and just get the fading bits sorted to standard. It will be worth more this way to collectors and so on in the future Smile

Just to confuse things even more, I'll throw another option into the mix.

Rather than facelift your car, how about trading up to a 2006 on Supercharged? Perhaps more of a step up the ladder rather than the leap you are looking at. You wouldn't be looking at too much of an investment to move up to the S/C, instead of a facelift.

You could then still go for option 4! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Just got the news today..apparently the L405 will not be presented at the Geneva motor show, maybe in Frankfurt. So I guess the new RR will not be available until spring 2013.

Agree, don't facelift.

Get a used RR with low mileage... 3.6TDV8 for £50k or 4.4TDV8 for £60k if funds are avaiable

Or

Pick up a 2007 SC for £23k

Nice dilemma to have Smile Current MY2020

I'd think 2007 S/C now - they are so cheap they are practically free.

In two years get a 60 plate 4.4 TDV8 - they'll be more attractively priced then (still relatively few around in the dealer networks).

Two years later pick up a second-hand L405.

That way, you'll miss out on a huge chunk of depreciation. Spend what you've saved on coke and hookers (PH meme).

Definately don't bother with the facelift. Whilst you might like it looking more modern it's a waste of money and will only bastardise it Laughing

The L405 is set to be quite a lot more according to all the talk, so if money could be an issue, think carefully. A new 2012 MY now will be anything from 65 to 100K depending on spec, the L405 could be from 85 to 140K depending on spec.........but of course that's all hear-say Thumbs Up

If you have the funds now, I say go buy a new 2012 MY right now and enjoy it - that's what I did Thumbs Up
check my gallery to see what you could have right now Razz
You could have at least 18 to 24 months motoring then before deciding to go for the new version.

+ think about all the niggles most "new designs" get. Most RR owners will say wait for a couple of years until all the trouble has been solved.......
