Tatty Interiors

Hi All

Firstly not sure if I just cant find it, however is there a sticky on this forum as a buyers guide? Looked but cant see it.

Secondly I have spent the last couple of weeks looking at used RR's anything between 2002-05 at a fair price range as well. Yet I am still to find one that the interior is not really worn on, is this common on these, if so can the damaged/worn interios trim be replaced and even the exrerior door handles all appear to be a bit shoddy.

If its just been the scottish weather and all my english friends tell me thiers are akll fine then I may have to shop further afield.

Look forward to your comments.

I too looked at lots of cars but eventually did find a few with well cared for interiors. Pays to look at plenty, and try and find a low mileage one that's been cared for. Graham

I would advise get a car which is excellent mechanically, but possibly with a tatty interior. It's amazing how well the tattiest interior will come up with some tlc. Where it won't come up well, it can be improved.

For example steering wheels can be simply replaced with a re-covered as new one. All leatherwork can be vastly improved with gliptone. Worn foundry finish on trim, you can replace the trim part with piano black or wood effect as an upgrade. You always get wear around the window switches, these can be a great upgrade to a nicer finish.

See the interior blemishes as the perfect excuse the embark on a rolling upgrade program and end up with a car which is virtually autobiography spec! You can also make it look much more contemporary than just getting a standard spec Vogue pre-facelift, which to me can look a little dated (though in a very tasteful way).

Thumbs Up Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Laughing @comparts very true.. rack em and stack em.. I would recommend avoiding Imperials as well (same philosophy)

When I was looking, what I commonly saw was worn leather on the drivers side bolster, leather torn on the drivers see (usually from a heavy driver or someone who slides in and out of the car), broken pipping, and painted surfaces wearing away. As the others say, a lot of the can be replaced/repaired but there are cars out there with interiors that have been loved/looked after. If everything else falls into place and you like the car, then I would use the tatty interior in your negotiations (either money off or get it repaired). Paul

I agree with some of the above but it all comes down to this,

Do you want to barter some money off due to the interior and then get it rapaired with the money saved, or keep the money saved for any issues that appear and fix the bits you can by yourself?

Im doing the latter and saved a fortune on mine i reckon even with its high miles i got it at below trade price and am slowly fitting and fixing bits as i go along and have time/cash Smile

Thanks guys for the advice. It looks like I am probably going to have to start looking a bit wider in the search for a suitable vehicle. Just concerned about buying one from a dealer far away and what if something goes wrong, its a long way to go to get it fixed!!

Gazellio - Thats a nice looking one, we were looking for the light interior with the cherry wood, but will certainally keep checking your website as you always appear to have some lovely condition vehicles.
