Went for a test ride in a 2004 4.4 v8 LPG conversion last nite and the differance between it been on petrol and lpg was very noticable seller said this is common, could any of you kind people out there let me know if this is the case or just a bit of sales man ship

I can't tell hardly any difference on mine ('04 4.4 V8 LPG). When I bought it the seller made the switch between the 2 types as we were accelerating and there was hardly any difference.

I am not any type of expert on LPG but I would have someone knowledgeable have a good look at the settings. May need a service (they should be done yearly - check when it as last done (and ask for receipts!).

OK, be careful. This sounds wrong. And the seller is being economical with the truth.

It USED to be the case that there was less power available on LPG due to its lower calorific value and this was on pre-electronic systems. On newer systems the fuelling is much more accurate to prevent stuff like lean-mix backfires, valve seat burn etc.

So, what happens with the new electronic injection LPG systems is that the power remains almost identical and the MPG drops accordingly. Expect 20% less miles per gallon on gas when compared to petrol.

If the car is noticeably down on power when running on LPG it could be any number of things which is causing it. These range from having an inappropriate kit fitted (walk away quickly) to the LPG system just needing a service. (unlikely).

If I were to guess I would suspect something like a failed diaphragm in the vapouriser, maybe the filter is blocked with heavy ends, perhaps even a failed injector. Whatever it is though it will not be 20 quid to fix it. Any information you can get about the make of the system fitted will help but the mainstream ones will cost IRO 100 quid fitted for a diaphragm, injectors are upwards of 40 quid each depending on make, and you need to factor in technician time to set it all up.

Look to negotiate a serious discount (at least a grand) or have the seller fix the problem before you buy it.

Looks like a stunning car. Price is at the top end I would think. But it is in excellent nick by the looks of it. You should look at having it LPG'd for around £1.5-£2k and factor this into your offer price.

FYI, I get around 250 miles for £50 of LPG. (20p per mile, same as my diesel.) LPG kit Servicing is only £150 - there is lots of advice here to see which system to use. Mzplcg is a font of knowledge on this as was Dan_uk-1984.

Hmm, everything supercharged except just one thing - it doesn't have a supercharger!
I was intrigued when it said FULL supercharged conversion, but I guess that didn't include the bits under the bonnet!  Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

You can tell a difference on my 4.4 V8 between the petrol and lpg, but I would only really say at moderate load.

Switch over onto lpg when driving, you cant tell ... its totally smooth, you simply wouldn't know.

Kickdown acceleration, cant tell either, the car boots its either way on petrol or lpg - sounds great.

Moderate acceleration, yeah, you can tell slightly. On petrol, there is just a little bit more grunt to the engine, both in terms of pull, and sound. You're going to laugh, but on petrol the engine is a bit more "grrrrr" sounding.

On lpg, I liken it to taking a bit of sandpaper to softening off the hard edges of the engine. Still the same shape, just a wee bit softer all round.

thing is though, on lpg, you're more likely to press the accelerator that wee bit harder. Which more than makes up for it. V8 or else ...

going shopping for a ffrr tom must find one or i might have to stick with the shogun sport like thats going to happen lol well fingers x
