Handbrake. Works perfectly and is simplicity itself to use. Free. Windows, Mac and Linux. FreeBSD licence / Open Source.

What more do you want....?

Try AVS video convertor - any format to any format inc blu ray, avi, divx, Mpeg, mkv, mov, flv and of course mp4 - in MP4 format you can even select what device it is going to be played on - Apple, android, blackberry, xbox, ps3 etc.... Latest version is AVS 6 I believe. Very Happy

Im using 6.4 .. just checked 2006 MY Autobiography. With 'toys'

Another vote for Handbrake. I use DVDFab to rip the disc onto my hard drive and convert using Handbrake. Paul

When I used to use OSX, I used Mac The Ripper. It does what it says on the tin even though it is no longer developed. It works with OSX 10.6 and earlier. It won't work with Lion unfortunately.

Handbrake is available for the Mac Paul
