I looked at offering my services to my local one - I was all ready to sign up until they asked for payment.

That seems to be a common theme... Graham

Well, it depends on what it get you I guess. If there's training, equipment, additional insurance... maybe reasonable. Dunno.

If there's any payment, surely that takes away the voluntary element? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Payment is for 3rd party insurance when responding, and to help the local groups to continue.

So this begs the question - if you're involved in an accident during a "response", you claim against the cover the response organisation ask people to pay for? I wonder what happens when it comes to your annual renewal and the "have you had any claims?" question.

My guess is that it's not your car insurance, its for public liability. Graham

So if you have a claim, it's all down to your own insurance then?

Right, I've now had a very helpful response from the organiser, I'm meeting them next week to find out more. The Essex "branch" is part of the Essex LR club, don't really want that but it's all or nothing, so I'll see. There's a membership fee (£25) for which I'll need to see what I get in return. Graham
