Tyre Pressure monitors

Just some questions:

How does it work?

Where are the bits located in the wheel?

Are they easily changed from wheel to wheel?

Anyone know the part number and cost from the stealer?

Cheers

I have the standard Land Rover TPMS on my Vogues SE. Each sensor is inside the wheel and the receivers are in the wheel arches. They detect change in pressure, and do not provide an absolute reading, they will detect a rapid pressure drop ie a leak and proivide a warning, but do not replace actual checks of absolute pressure. My tyres lose pressure over the months and still need routine checks and topping up.

I had to have all the sensors replaced under warranty when the car was two years old, I think I will always have Land Rover repalce tyres, so if the sensors are damaged in the fitting , it is down to them.

I am not sure how easy oem or third party sensors are to transfer.

I understand the third party accesory fittings do offer an absolute reading. 2018 Range Rover Autobiography

Like most things we now come to rely on a gizmo where before we used to work these things out manually I.e the service indicator can be approximated based on the cars past schedules. I had TPMS in my beemers and they're not reliable enough IMO. Discovery 4 HSE

According to the manual, they only advise you when pressures drop to 75% of their standard pressure. And also they will not tell which is the affected wheel. You just get a message ''check all tyre pressures''.
If you put the spare wheel in the car it will tell you that you have a wrong wheell. Besides that, the spare wheel also has a monitoring system and will also advise you when pressures drop to 75% of standard.
Besides this you cannot change wheel positioning. LF must go LF. RR-RR, etc...

With any regular car the pressures will eventually drop. In LR case, as you say, they must be checked from time to time, as the car will not warn you when they drop by 25%.

Sorry but have to disagree with regards to wheel position.

I have just changed my wheels round; front to back, without any issues.

Reason I asked is due to the fact I want to change wheels and hoped not to have to change over the sensors. Especially if it involves strip and fixing 8 times.

Thanks for that link.

Yep, you're right. My bad.
Was right now reading the manual on ownerinfo and I must have confused something else with the ''different positions''.

Will try someday to change tyre positions. These cars will eat up front tyres Big Cry
