i think you have answered your question yourself sally by asking for a 'portable' device...out of the 3 options you have, stevemfr's IIDTool has to be the best...,out of the other two ,the RAC needs a laptop and the faultmate is way overpriced.... ... - .- -.

Thanks Scarey, just feel i would be way out of my depth with a product that purely relies on the lap top. Any idea on the price of them? |

I've never tried the RAC, but I have the IID and I'm very happy with it! |

Thanks Bozmandb9. I had looked at the bearmach hawk eye hand held fault reader and reset tool, so its good to get some feed back as to how people find using these devices. Really see it coming into its own on trips to france etc |

It's not really fair to say the faultmate is overpriced. It is functionally miles ahead of the others, and the price you pay is for all the R&D that has been required to get it to where it is. Remember it's a professional tool; the others including RAC which I have, are just fault code reader and reset tools with a bit of air suspension configuration thrown in at the moment. |

re steves jobby thing, it must be said that the unit locks itself to that vehicles vin and cant be used on any other range rover, whereas the RAC does not..but any extra vin cost wont seem that much once you've used the IIDTol once and saving on dealer costs.l ... - .- -. Y. O. L. O. . |

If the iid tool uses the vehicle display to allow you to read the information, I'll have to hang on till I've had my pixels sorted. They are too poor at the moment to read too much information. They are on the to do list ( I'm sure this never reduces, I can't even plead lack of awareness as this isn't my first landrover product.) |
