Yes but £23k Main Dealer PX means the car would be marketed at about £27/28k....

As I've discovered.... Whistle

Looked at 12 (yes, that's TWELVE) FFRRs today, 9 superficially and three in some depth. All crap except one, which was at least £5k more than I thought it was worth.

Sigh. Graham

I think there's a clue there somewhere! If you only considered 1 to be worth considering, surely that's reflected in the (extra) cost?
That could explain why it was priced highed than the other 11? Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Rimini Red

I know where you're coming from.

I looked for ages for my TDV8 finally found one at a main dealer in Exeter.

Their price was £5k below what I could get locally. 37k mile car and came with 6 months tax and a years warranty (extendable).

My local dealer said they couldn't even buy one in for that price (But then as you say they take a minimum of £4k margin, personally I think more Twisted Evil ) 08 model TDV8 Vogue SE Rimini Red/ parchment. 04 TD6 Vogue Oslo Blue / parchment

How about this? http://pistonheads.com/sales/3257333.htm

Big miles, so I reckon the price is VERY ambitious, so could be room for negotiation? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

In fairness a Main Dealer needs at least a 5K margin to make a profit:

£5000 margin

less £1000 20% VAT

Balance £4000

Warranty Cost to Dealer £500

Balance £3500

Preparation/Road Tax/MOT/Valeting £500

Balance £3000

Advertising/Marketing per car £250

Balance £2750

Premises Costs/Heating/Rent/Power/Rates per car £750 (approx)

Balance £2000

Staff Salary and Commissions £750 per car (approx)

Balance £1250 less Corporation tax

Profit £1000

I know this because my costs are much less but I need £3750 margin to bank £1000 profit.....

Looks nice and great colour combo - must be a "Motorway" car. (Bit overpriced)

Id be more worried about buying a 60k vehicle to be honest...

Why Question

because at 60k most vehicles are just breaking in and big undesirables like gearbox air suspension etc if there going to go will go around 60-80k mark.

my opinion anyway....

Having owned Land and Range Rovers for 30+ years now, I have to agree. A good example was my last P38. Looked immaculate, drove really well, sounded great - 48,000 genuine miles. It was nothing but trouble! Air suspension, steering column, brakes, timing chain, water leaks....

I have always had the theory that it takes 80k miles (and pounds probably) to get them right and get stuff sorted on them to make them reliable. I broke my own rule with that P38 and got bitten by it!

By 80k if the engine was going to go bang early, it probably would have done... Same for gearbox - they seem to last 50 to 70k or forever!

A car with 100k on it these days is not the knackered old nail that a vauxhall Viva would have been in the late 70's.

I'd say don't worry about the milage - buy on condition, never age or milage - but don't be lulled into a false sense of security by low miles. It's either spent it life in dealers being repaired or grinding around a city all it's life in low gears.

You just need to remember that with higher mileage cars that things do wear out and keep a weather eye on things like shocks, brakes, exhausts etc. But even with replacing the odd ball joint you will still be quids in, both when you buy it and when you sell it as the depreciation mostly all happened before you bought it.
