TDV8 Vogue - 11k miles - 1st problem!

Me and SWMBO went to Tesco last night (You just know you are getting older when that's a Saturday night). Dogs were left in the RR so I left some windows down slightly and had the roof ajar too. Pressed the lock button on the keyfob twice and went off to view the produce on offer.

Within an hour we were back at the car on a dark halloween night. Took out the keyfob and pressed unlock........

Nothing! Shocked

Tried a few times with the same result. Checked it was actually my car, then checked the door, then tried again with the keyfob, then began to get worried about the dogs. I guessed my keyfob battery had failed.

Fortunately, SWMBO had her key with her so she whipped it out of her hand-bag and pressed unlock.......

Nothing! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Now we are getting very concerned. Two dogs inside, it's dark, cold and we are standing outside the car with a full trolley of shopping and lots of stupid drivers using the car park like a race track. Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, I tried the drivers door lock with the key and this unlocked but the alarm went off when I opened the door. Rolling Eyes

So, we can get into the car and rescue the dogs with the alarm going but lets just try the keyfob again to silence the alarm....... Bingo - All back to normal. Confused

So, WTF happened there then? Confused The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

A glitch!!

Happened to me the very first week I had my original FFRR.

Never happened again. Shocked If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

If you open the car with the key you always get the alarm going. Just insert it into the keyhole and it stops. It kinda recognizes that you've opened the car with the key and it stops. Or do what you just did....

Is that car park somewhere you've been ever? Or it was your first time there?

Just saying because once i took my car up a mountain where are located all the major aviation radars, emission stations and all sorts of radio equipment, and it happened exactly the same. At the time i thought it was the battery, and was even going to dismount the keyfob to replace it before reading that it has a rechargable battery.

When I was away from that ''radios'' place everything worked fine. As it never happened again i think it was because of the tremendous radio interferences.

I am not sure if you were parked close to the Tesco Petrol Station, some forecourts have communication devices for the pumps and tills that generate a lot of EMF, that has been know to affect some cars locking mechanisms.

You would think the latest FFRR should be imune to this now.

I have had instances of mine not respnding to the remote, but I have managed to trigger the locks when close to the front. The locking mechanism is no where near as sensitive as the Disco 3, which never gave me any trouble.

Most concerning for you, especially with the dogs on board.

VMPP - The car park is within a mile of some serious airport radio/radar station so that may be the case. Good to know that I could have simply put the key in the ignition to stop the alarm - thanks.

claud - I wasn't that close to the forecourt so I doubt if that would have been the issue. You are right that the remote is nothing like as sensitive as the D3 though.

I will chalk this one up as a FFRR brain fart and hope it never happens again. Whistle The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile
