TDV8 Buying Advice

Hi,
I hope you can off some advice for a new member.

I've currently got a 2006 Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD but I want to upgrade to a TDV8 Range Rover Vogue.

I've spotted an immaculate 2006 car with 83,000 miles on the clock and the vendor is asking £24,995. Does this seem a fair price. The car has a full service history with two local owners and really is in immaculate condition.

Also, I tend to do 15,000 miles per year so I'm interested in hearing any views on these cars with 130k miles plus.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a fair price to me, presumably it's a Vogue? Not from a main dealer I'm guessing. You might find a main dealer car at that price and mileage, which would give you a little more peace of mind.

So far as I'm aware there are no issues with the TDV8 at higher mileage, I would have thought that the car you're looking at would be an excellent purchase, though clearly you'll know it has a little depreciation still to go.

Good luck! I'm sure at TDV8 owner will be along shortly to tell you more. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I am moving to a FFRR having just sold my D3 last weekend.

Been looking at TDV8 and petrol V8 and was wondering what difference in mpg between the two was.

Right, I'm on my 2nd TDV8 and before these 2 I had a V8 Petrol Disco 3. What I found is this.

TDV8 is a great engine. Better for towing than the petrol due to the much higher torque. Economy is:
24mpg towing a 26ft caravan
30 MPG general knocking about
36 MPG on a long motorway run. 38 if I drive like my Grandma.
D3 was about 14 / 22 / 25 respectively.

My 1st TDV8 was a nightmare but it had been an Estate Manager's car so although only 56k on the clock, that was 56k across the fields. Basically it was knackered.

The 2nd one was a city car and in much better mechanical condition. So far it has needed a few bits done but nothing major. Just got back from a 1500 mile trip to France with the caravan in tow. Faultless..

Stuff to look out for.
Suspension bushes and ball joints
Brakes. Particularly seized rear calipers.
Notchy gearchanges at the mileage you suggest. Gearboxes need fluid changes despite LR claims of them being sealed for life. Budget 300 quid for a megaflush. Do the PAS while you're there. www.4-tech.co.uk
Scratched windscreens, mainly driver's side near the A pillar. Crappy wiper design and lots suffer this.
Scabby door handles. They all suffer this.
Water ingress into rear quarter panels. Well documented on this site.
Knackered rear wiper motors. Crap design where they fill with washer fluid.
Air suspension. Check it operates through all heights smoothly.

Hope this helps.

Dom
