England 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Luxor

This thread has got my attention seeing as I am definitely too tall to sleep comfortably in the back of the RR. My daughter reckons chucking a tent in is best, someone at work reckons a trailer tent in the way forward, but I was thinking since I can't get the towbar off what is probably one off the best tow cars made, I might as well use it as such and get a little van

Whats the smallest rig you guys recommend? It'll be just me and my mountain bike with a very outside chance of SWMBO coming along. Incidentally her idea was to use cheaper hotels or B&Bs rather than being self sufficient.

Cheers
Geoff Geoff

We aren't quite in the 'tin tent' group (yet) but do use a Camplet trailer tent. Still under canvas but with quite a few luxuries (electricity, proper beds, running water, kitchenette thingy that pivots off the back of the trailer. Once the trailer is levelled up it takes about 2 minutes to get the canvas up and then another 10-15 minutes to get it pegged down whilst the wife puts the kettle on / opens a beer (depending on the weather). This tiny trailer (surprisingly commodious inside but still looks ridiculously small behind the FFRR);

produces a good sized trailer tent, which the kids (6&4) love using

Worryingly there has been mutterings about the possibility of a caravan from SWMBO Sad

Well i may as well come out as well!

I've currently got a challenger 635 for the 4 of us to go away in as much as possible, also I'm meant to have a full size awning, annex and breathable groundsheet but 2weeks later still nothing and the dealer doesn't think I'm serious about taking the whole back and cancelling the finance on it all Censored Salesmen/women! Anyway due to my age I have to display an L plate on the back of it an the front of the ffrr while the mrs is in the passenger seat as by instructor!!!! Bloody stupid grandfather rights about towing over 3.5tonnes Evil or Very Mad so am hoping at some point after mid jan to take the category E test but not sure how they will respond to the use of venture cam now I have mine working Wink

The td6 coped well with it behind it on its maiden voyage and I'm hoping if I can save over the next few years to maybe move to a tdv8 but may just start updating the td6 instead, get it really mint and buy a spare box and recon it incase!! I really wish there was a way to force the TC to lock up by flicking a button though as it would make the towing easier Smile

First trip if I don't hand the can back is October half term, few days near Filey and then some days home then a few more days in the peaks which should be great as kids are only 3&7 and weather shouldn't e too bad by then fingers crossed!!!

Noddy

Very nice, friends had an identical one now changed to a 2011 version.

Once you work out how to drive the Alde heating you will find it superb.

I tow a 36 year old Cavalier Caravan with our 4.4 V8 . Sometimes afraid we will end up with just the chassis behind us , and leave the top on the motorway somewhere with all the power the Beast has . Very Happy Its big , its black and we call it THE BEAST !
