Juddering / grinding sensation steering left while driving

I am experiencing a juddering, almost grinding sensation coming from the front of the car when steering left while driving on hilly roads. Has anyone experienced this? It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens more on sharper turns and the traction control light flashes when it happens. Any input would be appreciated.

PS My tires are somewhat low on tread...probably has 5000 miles of life left. Brake pads are still good.

Sounds similar to a problem I had, front left drive shaft broken.

how often did you feel the grinding? since i posted this, i've only experienced it one more time. my car is a 2006 vogue. thanks.

Sounds like DSC/ traction control kicking in - can be caused by uneven tread or tyre pressure differences between different wheels, actually quite a few possible causes.

The traction control light flashing would support this.

i believe you are correct. one of my front tyres is low on pressure. thanks for your help.

i've decided to get with the program and start spelling it "tyre" instead of "tire"

going to call my hood a bonnet and my trunk a boot. what else do i need to know to hang out with you UK folks?

A few things - what you call 'gas' is called petroleum spirit over here, and we buy it in the chemists in measures of gills and they will also charge your accumulator for you if required. The car radio or ICE is called the wireless and only picks up the Home Service and we always navigate using the AA book of the road printed in 1964.
