Smoking out of exhaust

Noticed white smoke bellowing out of exhaust of my Diesel 2003 when started it, no apparent oil leak, but no oil in engine, no noise, and no detected fault code, no loss of power. Anyone any ideas what this could be?

Defo smoke, under 5000 a year mileage, started making noises now too!

Am I the only one that's alarmed by the "no oil in engine" comment? Shocked

Do you check it regularly and how long has it been grinding it's internals with a lack of lubrication?
Most older diesels use a bit of oil over time.

How does it smell? Sweet and acrid or like stale/boiled oil?

How does the oil look, any froth/mayonnaise etc?

Also, does it go away after a while? How are the Valve stem seals?

Could the actual PCV unit be malfunctioning?

Interesting ... for future reference £280 for your turbo to be reconditioned if you DIY. Allow 8 hours for the job. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

To echo Fox's comments above - was there oil in it before your problem started? You say there was no oil in it when you checked it after the noise. Did you check it previously?

Turbo's do like to be lubricated, they're funny like that.

Not sure on labour costs for independant garages, but we'd charge about £225 labour

Cost of a new Garrett Turbo would be £820.00+ You can paypal direct using - www.paypal.me/duckworthparts

I have a receipt from the previous owner (not that long before I brought my car) and the total price for a reconditioned turbo was £1272.25 fitted.

This was with an indie and not main dealer. Reformed

thanks for getting back to me with an idea on prices.

The turbo seems to be leaking oil from the turbo housing joints. Car still drives fine and and i am going to have to get it done but i just hope it will last a bit longer, any idea how long it may last....or any advice? 2003 Range Rover HSE 3.0 TD6
