OK, here we go.

After market warranties - what are your experiences ? - I know it's always an emotive subject . . . .

I've had my FF now for a year and took out a warranty with Warranty Direct which is now due for renewal. The cost was not inconsiderable, and i've not had to claim as the car has been as good as gold, except a couple of niggles - easy fixes.

On the renewal, as it's now completed over 80k, they seem "reluctant" to cover "suspension" and "air conditioning", for some reason. When I explained to the very helpful young lady ( ) that I would not be renewing with those conditions she has promised to speak with her supervisor and call back . . . I suspect they will provide cover as it's all a game.

But the question is this, has anyone had any experience of having had to claim from one of these companies - good or bad ? I'm thinking of either the above or Warranty Wise. What have they been like come the crunch ?

My car's mileage and age tend to suggest I may be coming up for gearbox issues, so this is a major consideration. Having said that, the car is spot on and drives superbly . . . . .

However, my insurance with Tesco is £350 !

I guess there's more chance the Range Rover is going to break than you having an accident.

I've just renewed the Land Rover Select warranty on mine which is for cars over 5 years old. It's not cheap at £785 for the year but it does include MOT insurance.

Hi Pretlove - 43 (but I don't look it . . . ) - I was surprised as well. Last year I was with Aviva - I would not touch them again with a barge pole. They wanted £20 every time I phoned them ! They wanted nearly £600 to renew. I checked the small print with Tesco several times - it was better cover all round. Apparently it helps if you have a Clubcard (which we do) - I guess they know everything about you from shopping with them  Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

When I bought my FF I was given an Autoguard Warranty by the supplying dealer.

I can say without any hesitation that Autoguard Warranties are the most useless company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with and their warranties are not worth the paper that they are printed on.

I needed to make a claim when my suspension failed so phoned Autoguard up and jumped through all the many hoops required to claim through their process. They authorised the repair and told me to get it fixed then recover the money through them. Whilst my car was in the garage they were in constant communication with the garage who sent Autoguard photos throughout the repair as requested by Autoguard so that Autoguard could approve the repairs as they went along.

Once I submitted my invoices to Autoguard Warranties they refused to pay, said the work had never been authorised and wouldn't be covered anyway as it happened so soon after I bought the car and suspension wasn't covered under the terms of the policy.

The MD of Autoguard has gone as far as to say that I have made it all up and my version of events is not true.

The idiot is unable to explain why his employees kept phoning the garage and talking them through the repairs, doesn't know what is going on at his company and doesn't even understand the terms and conditions of his own policies.

I'm now going through the painful process of trying to recover the money but that means following the correct process if I want to have a good chance of success.

Anyway, in summary, avoid Autoguard Warranties like the plague. If you ever buy a car from a dealer make sure that the warranty is not provided by Autoguard and if it is refuse to accept it and tell the dealer you will deal with any problems through him.

Autoguard Warranties are a complete and utter joke.
