Flat Battery - more like not ENOUGH batteries!

OK, this is what happened:
Ist time: Loading son's baggage at end of term, left the tailgate up while going to and fro from his flat. After 25 minutes, tried to start the engine - completely flat.

2nd time: Had puncture on A34. Waiting for AA, flashers on for 55 minutes. Car unlocked, all doors shut. no internal lights. Battery completely flat.
It got interesting when the AA man jacked the rear up. Because the battery was flat, the air suspension on the front depressurised completely. The car rolled forward off the jack!.....(Handbrake was on)... WTF?

LR Dealer said "yes, known fact (not problem, mind).... there are 36 computers on board - when you activate with the key fob, they all come on. Even if you go nowhere, it takes 30 minutes for them all to shut down. Leave the tailgate open for 30 minutes, and the battery will be flat"

Does this mean that people don't do picnics at Twickenham any more?

more battery woes

Hello - just joined this forum section after multiple Disco3 vehicles and a Defender too, I am now in a TDV8 FFRR.

Great car however I have had multiple flat batteries needing a jump start in the last few months from what I consider to be relatively minor periods of time with the keys out of the ignition and the doors and boot open etc. Basically in and out of the car loading and unloading for half an hour or so. This seems to drop the battery down very very easily. A quick jump start and normal service is resumed.

Is this normal for a FFRR? I did this once on a Disco3 however this was 2 hours with the stereo on. This seems over sensitive.

The car is coming up to 4 years old so will replace the battery but shocked at reading this is perhaps normal.

regards
Andy

hi andy, the fullfat is very heavy on electronics and is littered throughout the vehicle with ecu's....even leaving the keys in the ignition when washing the car for instance keeps the car 'awake'...
my window tint man kept on lowering/highering the rear windows to make sure the film was tucked in behind the trim and this flattened the battery , mind you it was the summer so no other cars usage found that the battery needed replacing....i would replace before the winter sets in cos going by previous winters it could be a nasty one again..

Thanks Scarey, new battery on it's way before winter... so the FFRR is even more battery hungry than the Disco3 Sad

I have had excactly the same problem for the past 4 years. I do track day about 6 times a year and tow my car to the track and during the day me and the Wife are in and out of the car quite a few times and the battery will go flat by lunchtime.

I don't really want to replace unnecassarly as I can go on holiday for 2 weeks and come to start it and its fine. It is just the computers brains staying awake.

Adam
