Sunroof Initialisation Procedure

Since disconnecting my battery my sunroof has been playing silly beggars and not finding its closed position fully.

I followed the re-initialisation procedure as per the workshop manual and all worked fine:

Initialisation
Initialising the sunroof allows the control unit to learn the end positions of the motor's travel. The hall sensors provide pulses for motor rotation, the control module counts the pulses and determines where the panel is by memorising the stored pulses.

If the system is not initialised, the sunroof will only operate in the tilt up and slide close positions.

Initialisation Procedure
Pressing and holding the sunroof switch in either the tilt up or slide close positions for 15 seconds momentarily
operates the sunroof motor.

The control module memorises the pulses from the hall sensors on the next activation of the motor by driving the panel to its end run positions. The control module senses an amperage increase and determines the end run position. The counted number of pulses is then used as the basis for calculating the panel position.

Did this go in the WIKI?

I have slightly different version from RangeRovers.net:

Tilt Roof > Keep Hold Button 30 seconds until click or slight movement > Open Completely > Press button Once to close.

Just about to give it a try.....

OK result is neither worked for me. Big Cry

If try to close the sunroof with one click it just bouncesoff the close position and reopens.

I have manually tap the switch to get to to the right "Closed" level with roof position.

Any ideas?

Gazilleo have tried closing the sunroof lining door a fraction first. The reason i ask is that my sunroof opens straight away when i press close, however if i partially close the sunroof lining door the sunroof fully closes no problems. I hope this helps

Failed again, I also checked channels for any debris and there is none......

It shuts fine when manually controlling.

According to manual the reset procedure is:

> With the power on fully tilt the sunroof open.

> Continue to push the switch in the tilt position for approximately 20 seconds

The sunroof can now be operated as normal.

Shame it will not fix my bouncing problem......

I had the 'bounce back' problem after re-setting the roof. With the sunroof open I pushed and held the 'tilt' bottom for +20secs [until after the 2nd thud of the motor] and it seems to have cured it.
The initial problem for me was a sort of motor overrun sound on tilt - no problem on slide.
The slide problem came after the re-setting.

After my recent 'lack of electricity issue' (new alternator fitted Thumbs Up ) I have an issue with my sunroof.

Sunroof will open and close with one touch and will open to the tilt position with one touch. However it will not close from tilt in one movement.

Either pushing the close button to the first stop and holding it there or pushing to the second (close in one movement) stop produces the same effect, the roof closes by a small increment and I have to press it about 6 times to get it to close.

Followed the advice already posted on here and nothing seems to work.

For these reinitialisation procedures does the ignition need to be in a certain position??

Can go back to the dealer if needed, but I would like to fix it myself and avoid having to drive across town for a 'simple fix'

I don't think it does close from tilt with just a single push. Mines doesn't anyway - and neither did any of my P38's sunroofs.

Hi Simes

Possibly didn't explain it very well

Prior to alternator failure and car running out of electricity the sunroof would close from tilt by pushing the close button to the first position and holding it there until the roof had closed. Now if you push the button to that point it closes by a couple of degrees and then the motor stops and you have to release the button and press again. Currently takes about 6 presses to get the roof closed. Big Cry

Thanks Nigel Laughing

None of the reinitialisation procedures are working for me Big Cry

As it has a warranty I will take it back to the dealers at Brock and let them play with it.

Very Happy
