Hi Guys,

At the moment i have 255 x 50 x 20 wheels and tyres on the S/C at the moment, and i was thinking of maybe changing them, to either 19" or 22".

I was wondering if any of you FFRR Owners had any advice on what would be the best wheel and tyre size combination.

Don't reduce the size of wheels you have got on the SC, it will just look wrong. The larger wheels are what set it apart from the rest of the line up. The stock 20" alloys are also not too bad offroad and do not damage as easily as the 20" Range Rover Sport alloys, which I personally went through 3 sets of....

If you upgrade to 22" wheels it CAN look ok, it's personal preference I guess but my advice would be to stick to proven ones such as the OverFinch models or larger versions of LandRover's own designs.

Do plenty of research as it can cost plenty of cash. Also, think about the potential cost of replacing the rubber if you get a puncture etc. I have a friend with a BMW that he had to replace 3 brand new tyres within 6 months, each one a very low profile and very expensive...OUCH!

The stock sizes are generally easier to find a tyre bargain for if you do some homework.

Sorry to disagree but I prefer the ride with the 19's with Pirelli ATR's on 255/55/19 but like the look of the 20's but although the 20's are standard on mine the ride is compromised

Waiting for some Cooper xeons in 20' with a good ATR tread to be released

i had 22"'s on my RRS and now ride with the standard 20"'s on my S/C vogue and to be honest although i love the look of overfinch tigers i wont put them on as the ride is so much more comfortable and also i can mount a kerb without the clunk and bang i used to get from my 22"'s. Again it is personal preference but i would say having 22"'s is probably 80% looks 10% comfort and 10% practicality where as i feel the 20"'s are 100% suitable, thats my opnion  ---------------------------------------------

IMHO I would go with 19" but for comfort the 18" win absolutely hands down, for a good compromise I am more than happy with 19" - I wouldn't go to 20" having experiecned the ride and seen the kerbing damage - no thanks.

I am a careful driver and no matter how careful I am I always manage to clip the odd kerb - the vehicles are just too big not too especially in car parks - so far I have had absolutely no damage to either 18 or 19" and that includes off road driving. The 18" smooth out almost every bump but they can look a little dated... the turn in on the 19" is very slightly sharper but not enough to really notice. Other than the look of the wheels I would stick with 18".

In some respects the larger wheels over 18" spoil what a FFRR is all about - Comfort and off-roadability.

Low profile tyres are very vulnerable - especially on stony ground such as farm cart-tracks, side walls get cut, rims chewed and I have even seen tyres knocked off the rim when hitting speed bumps slightly too fast.

Wee Guy, if you want to go to 19" have a look at the 2009 MY 19" wheels - they are stunning.

I have also been informed that the correct tyres for a range rover are 275/45/20 and in some cases 275/50/20 because when i was looking for a new tyre recently certain websites ask you to key in your vehicle details one even came up with 285/35/20 , needless to say i stuck with what was on them. ====================================

Funny how LR state its 255/50/20 thou

FFRR OE correct tyre sizes are :-

255/50/20
255/55/19
255/60/18 these sizes maintainn the correct rolling radius.

I am one of those people who believe the manufacturer knows what he is doing and they are the size specified for a reason...

weguy 275/50/20 will result in the vehicle being slightly over / higher geared, higher centre of gravity, slower acceleration (if that really matters), less clearance between suspension components but slightly better ground clearance.

The only time I would disagree with LR on tyre sizes is with the pathetic 205/80/16 originaly fitted to the RR classic, this problem is now solved as more modern sizing came availabkle in the form of 235/70/16 tyres which were originally not available when the vehicle was developed.

Can i make a valid point? The SC has Brembo brakes and im unsure if anything smaller than 20" wheels will clear the front callipers!

20's - as there are the supercharged alloy wheels. You don't want people thinking you have a mere Vogue do you!?
