Suddenly, I'm rich!

Outside Switzerland at least.

The Swiss Franc is the safest of currencies. In times of trouble lots of people buy it. It's also a small currency. As a consequence in times of financial strife its value rockets.

At its recent peak 4 years ago a pound would buy nearly 2.5 Franks. Today it'll buy 1.16. CHF has more than doubled in value against the pound.

It's a similar story against the Euro. One Euro would buy you nearly 1.7 Franks 4 years ago. Today they're nearly at parity.

USD, it's the same story.

Needless to say, I feel sick about the Sterling I still have, but very pleased that the bulk of my assets are in Swiss Francs.

It also means that the ski slopes will be deserted this winter. Very Happy

Cars and bikes are silly cheap in eurozone and especially so in the UK.

I was wondering whether to spend some tuning my VX220 or get another motorcycle. Now I might do both. Very Happy

Considering getting a holiday home in Croatia....

...with space for a yacht. Very Happy

On the other hand they might think at work that it's much more economic to relocate my job to the UK. Sad

I was thinking of buying a small place in London but f you lot keep rioting maybe I'll buy London.

Seriously, there are down sides. Hardly anyone is recruiting in Switzerland now and many are laying off staff. The Swiss national bank has not only got practically zero interest rates, they're also printing money. There's even talk of negative interest rates where foreign depositors will be charged.

Another big rise in the Franc after the central bank removed a cap. Wish I'd bought that Mercedes this month instead of last. Big Cry
