Jag 4.2 4.4 Block Heater

You know how I like to be toasty warm in the mornings, one thing I will really miss is my FBH.

Although a block heater will not warm the interior of the car, it will mean that the coolant/engine is hot so as soon as the car starts it will get warm quickly.

The block heater is listed in Microcat, and also a popular accessory for Jaguars with the AJV8 engine and just screws into the coolant drain hole so is an easy mod.

Has anyone here done it yet?

The downside is that it needs to be plugged into the mains, but as I park on my driveway that's not a big deal. They cost about £50-£60, I'm sure the cost of running it for an hour in the morning will be much less than 1/2 a litre of fuel extra running a cold engine for a few minutes.

If you're going to plug something into the mains, you might as well sling a fan heater on the back seat, at least that way the windscreen will be defrosted as will the otherwise frozen door rubbers.

But then the engine wont be hot... I've never had frozen doors.

I lie, I washed the car one evening in winter, everything was frozen though, even the door handles wouldn't move.
