Driving to Croatia - any tips?

Not been there before. Going in a few weeks in my VX220. Thought I'd go to Trieste then meander down the coast to Dubrovnik, stay there for a week and meander back again.

Anyone driven there? Are they as nuts as it seems? Am I nuts for driving? Any must sees? Is going over the border to Bosnia a total no-no?

Advice greately received.

I think Bosnia should be OK, but don't go into Serbia. Relationships there are still a little tense. That said there are some very beautiful parts of these countries.

Having been to visit clinical sites all over Serbia I can recommend never getting ill there, the hospitals etc are terrible compared to the standard we are used to in western europe. I think Croatia is slightly better....

Drove to Croatia and back about 4 years ago in my Defender.

No issues at all. Everyone was very friendly and in Zagreb we were allowed to park in a pay and display bay by a nice traffic warden for free. Shocked

If the law hasn't changed, you need your dipped headlights in the day too. Or you get fined.

As above, Bosnia is fine, but I'm not so sure on Serbia.

Drove from the South (meaning, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia) a couple o years back! For once, it is one of the best Mediterranean places to visit (if you ask me, one of the best in the World). No problems whatsoever with anything! Restaurants are good, people are good, no such thing as remains from the old war. You have billionaires coming with worlds most expensive yachts and eating at normal places just because the seafood is very very fresh!

I also visited Mljet, ,Korçula, Hvar, (highly recommended if you can) and other couple islands as I was in my uncle's yacht! We parked the RR in a little place near Dubrovnik called Cavtat, and we returned 2 weeks later and the car was untouched! (a lot of great cars in the parking too, MB's, BMW's, even exotics Ferrari's & Lamborghini's.

As far as Bosnia is concerned, you pass through a little strip of it with access to the sea, in road to Dubrovnik. Like 10 minutes drive, then you go back into Croatia. Nothing to worry about. (Most things about the Balkans, are urban legends. Things go mostly fine down there).

I hope to have made things more clearer for you. And enjoy your holidays! You will not regret them! 2000 BMW M5, Avus Blue/LeMans Leather Interior

On the way back I went from Dubrovnik to Mostar and then to Sarajevo, after that Zagreb. Bosnia is a beautiful country, really stunning. Lakes, mountains rivers. Lovely people and apart from the dawn prayers very Westernised.

Unfortunately, it's also quite a large country with virtually no motorways/dual carriageways. Speed limits are enforced, either by the police or lorries, so getting in and out by car is time consuming and tedious.

I will go back, but until the motorways are built I will fly there. My recomendation is go if you can.

This was the main road out of Sarajavo. Wondered if I should've taken the FFRR instead of the VX220.
