Coming from a TD6 what I'd like to see is: -

Much less weight. I don't know why the FFRR has to be 400kg more than it's competitors that are the same size and performance.

Even more luzury - really top quality saloon levels of refinement including ride and noise.

More space.

More dynamism in the chassis dynamics. Don't want a sporty thing, but less lurching.

Whatever, vitally important is to keep the Range Rover-ee-ness. It's a unique car and must remain so.

I spoke with a JLR employee on friday who has seen the L405


Apparently a group of them were let into the secret room, all phones and devices confiscated so that no evidence could leave the room.

He said it looks amazing at the front, even more luxurious inside, buttons are being replaced with motion sensitive and swipe type interface.

He also said that LR now realise the FFRR is a serious contender to Bentley and RR etc and as such, they will be producing it in 2WD as standard, and if you actually want to go offroad you can spec the 4wd as an option.

Prices set to be 100K +.

He also said that the Sport and Disco are due to get some very fancy engines involving some clever/hybrid technology too.

I am only passing on what he said, but he had no reason to make it up, he was as fanatical as me about Range Rovers. Discovery 4 HSE

Well, if it's true that the next Sport will use the same platform as the L405, maybe that will be the replacement for The FFRR and the L405 itself will be something better...

After all, the Sport pretty much took over from the P38 after the FFRR took things to the next level.

In five years we could all be driving next generation Sports rather than this new "super" Range Rover if what FFRR says is correct... well, not all of us, but you get the point.

Oh and I am strongly against removing the 4x4 ability. The flagship should be just that.

Not that anyone will want to sell if that is right.

If the price really will be that high, I reckon you're right Fox & the sprot will be improved to take over this current buyers selection. That's quite an increase if 100K is the base model.

2wd as standard, that has to be a red herring.

He's probalby testing you to see if you sell the story to the news of the world....oh no, that ones' gone....one of the others then any stories about a 2WD Range Rover must have come from you and you'll be on the black list.....

They made a 2wd Freelander to make it economical, whose to say the 2WD won't end up being the Option rather than the default, to lower the cost?

Anything is possible, but we all know the FFRR will be a 4WD no matter what. Discovery 4 HSE

If LR wanted a car in that space to compete at that level, then they would not want the new clients to park up next to a 20 year old beast of the same name - they'll come up with a new model as they have done before such as with the Evoque.

As for the 2WD drive being standard, I don't think LandRover would ever want that - the clue is in the name - whilst it could be seen as a way to offer an alternative to a 4WD FFRR that maniplulate average emission figures or looks like you have a green offering - it would be just that as opposed to mainstream.
