Chaps I had a brainwave earlier normally happens after a night in the pub as my bodily functions return to normal !
I was thinking Blue Tack could be used as a cheap alternative to a clay bar anyone tried this? I have googled this and it appears a lot of people do this all the time with good results ! I'm going to try it tomorrow using my megs quick detailer as a lubricant. Apparently it works really well on wheels for removing brake dust!  Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

You might get some results but I think it'll be too soft to work properly.

It is lubricated with water only, and therefore is very cheap to use. For £9.95 I don't think there's much point in trying to find a substitute.

If you get one, cut it in half and only use half of it in case you drop it on the floor.

I bought the Turtle wax clay bar with lubricant and seems to work Ok (£17 Halfords). I have the major headache of having to remove what appears to be small speckles of white paint which have gone down the whole of the passanger side of my car, (which is black) across the bonnet and partially on the drives side and roof aswell !!! All I can think is that I drove past someone somewhere who was spraying a building and the overspray blew onto my car as I went past and dried. Normal polishes / tar removers took around 5mins to remove @5 sq.inches of the paint, but using the claybar, I cleaned and polished a whole wing in @20mins, so I reckon the rest of the problem areas will take around 3-4hrs and then I'll do the unaffected parts of the car aswell to get an even result. The clay bar is turning out to be an excellent buy now. Steve
