Did you know that you can read the sections you like?
Like the technical bit.
You are not forced to read everything posted. Rolling Eyes

I awlays though forums were about people sharing a common interested, but not to the exclusion of people having a bit of a laugh and enjoying some banter with likeminded folks.

When I started off on here, it was to ask (and be provided with) useful FFRR based information, but as time's gone on, I've gotten to know some of the "characters" on here and now feel comfortable engaging in non-RR related banter, so perhaps you should consider looking upon the forum as not only a useful source of FFRR experts, but also people who have a broader spread of interests! Whistle

You can do a search for the info you need without having to read the "guff" as you call it! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Question

You do realise that there are parts other than General don't you?

The Technical, Maintenance and Electronics pages are full of useful stuff and very little off topic. I've found this site to be incredibly useful and I'd have struggled with some things without it.

Anyway, as others have said, you can choose to read only the bits that interest you.

Thinking about this, I have to say that I don't really get it.
Seen similar posts on other forums and they generally just seem to be a bit attention grabbing or from people who over estimate thier importance. You'll never please everyone and any individual member on a forum is pretty expendable in the grand scheme of things. Only when there is a clear problem and current members talk to the admin do things happen.

However, when I get a bit bored of a forum I just use it less for a bit, check in sometimes and then in future when my interest has been raised again I'll get more involved. Early in the year I went through a phase of just ignoring the "off topic" section (for example) so it's doing it's job.

Do people actually think that someone who has not really been around very long and who hasn't contibuted much will be missed and so the powers that be will change things and bring in a new era of on-topic only chat?

I doubt it.
The dynamic of the forum changes over time. If you want to contribute, do. If not, don't.
But why burn your bridges when you may feel like coming back in the future?

Thats a real shame to make such a comment. I've not been a member long, but found this to be a most excellent helpful site.
If it was just pure knowledge with no hint of conversation, which is the point, I may as well go to a library & read the owners manual by myself!

I've found most topics (apart from those obviously posted in the "OFF TOPIC") have all started with some form of on topic interest whether it's about values, technical, buying, selling, problems or just venting. In amongst those posts there's gonna be some slightly off topic conversation, but crikey are we not allowed to converse unless every other word is about the FF ?

Very sad....... Crying or Very sad

Don't listen Martin, you seem to do a fab job simply letting any of us on here to talk about whatever we deem fit. Thumbs Up
