Front active roll bar bushes

Hello all

I am chasing a front suspension knocking over bumps, The front lower arm bushes were splitting so have replaced all the lower arms and roll bar drop links.......knocking not resolved grrrr. In fact it's slightly worse now I've driven it a bit.(I don't think I've achieved the very high torque needed on the drop links. Difficult to hold the Torx bit in place!)

I have lateral movement on the sway bar, the whole bar basically slides left to right in the bushes, maybe a cm or two. It needs a bit of a shove to move it, but it does move. I've read another thread here that suggests that's not normal but want to double check. Does anyone else's bar move laterally? The way the bushes and bar mount, it looks like it might be designed to move sideways a little.

So, is this movement normal?

Thanks in advance,

No, I dont think sway bars should move side to side. Perhaps a little bit doe to flex of the bush, but not sliding through the centre hole of the bush. V8 or else ...

I had a knock over bump so had all the 4 arms replaced and the sway bay bushes. No more knock. The bar bushes are cheap relative to the arms so it's not a big ask to change those out at the same time.

The D Bushes going will result in some pretty annoying and loud knocking noises, even creaking too.

I replaced mine after chasing a knock and it's silent now. Was determined because I had lateral play where it would mostly knock on O/S then randomly transferred to the N/S

After you replace the suspension components, take a look at the engine mounts and front struts. My final clunks under acceleration were the torn engine mounts, and on bumps were he struts. Both replaced by me in the driveway. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8
