Has anyone had experience with aftermarket headlights?

I’ve got an ( irrational? ) urge to upgrade my headlights, purely for stylistic reasons. I see that there are “defender” style lights becoming available….. but from China!

I’m okay with getting cheaper items ( sub £100 ) from China as if they’re crap you can revert to a U.K. OEM supplier and you haven’t lost that much. But it’s a different matter at this price point.

Has anyone got experience with this type of product ? Were they as described? Did they last ?

I also see Hawke supply aftermarket lights. I believe they are a reputable aftermarket stylist. I don’t prefer this style but I bet that Hawke get them made in China and then back them with local support.

Aside from the styling choice I’m interested to hear folks experience with more expensive products from Chinese suppliers either via eBay or AliExpress.

Thanks in advance ! TDV8 4.4 2012

As for Chinese after market products, to start with I try to avoid buying anything from China. But, having said that I have one rule I try to follow which seems to work. If the factory / manufacturing is controlled by the parent company, the products can be of good quality, ie, several brake disc makers have plants in China. But if the parts are from a 100% Chinese brand / maker with no outside quality control etc then quality is often not up to scratch. Just my personal experience, others will disagree.
For instance a High torque Dewalt cordless impact gun I bought is very good, ( it was only when it arrived that I realised it was made in China ) then a fully Chinese rear light for my L322 turned out to be of very, very low quality.

I bought upgraded rear lights & latest heater screen for my L494 Sport a couple of years ago Very well made, plug & play. Perfect. Questions answered quickly despite time difference. Delivery, very good with tracking. Would use Aliexpress again

Our cars have quite a sensitive electric system and I would avoid anything non standard for fear of causing spurious issues.

The L322 has such a distinctive and handsome front end I think these would make it look 'odd'. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather
