Warrantywise - any good/worth it?

I am buying a 2012 Range Rover L322 with full service history from private seller.
Its done 86k miles with the 4.4TDV8 engine.
Is it worth purchasing Warrantywise or will they try every excuse not to cover things like Turbos, Hot/Cold heated Seats, EGR sensors, etc.
Am I better keeping money in bank ready to get sorted with my local indie?

I also have a 2012 4.4 TDV8 with 90000 miles that was under a dealer waranty until Jan 2025. When it expired I looked into the various waranty company's options. You have to carefully review claim limits, age and mileage limits and betterment. Once I scratched beneath the surface I discovered the level of cover offered was next to useless. I was lucky enough to be able to extend the dealer supplied waranty for another 3 years for £1000 and I know they are straightforward to deal with and cover almost everything. There is a fairly low labour rate and the max claim amount is car value for multiple claims in 1 year or £5000 for an individual claim.

Money put aside would be my advice but also focus on preventative maintenance to reduce the risk of big bills.

What I do but there are far more knowledgeable members on here and I am not mechanic.

Drive gently until temperature gauge half way and then drive normally but avoid large throttle inputs for another 10 minutes for the oils to get up to temperature.

Change oil and filter using quality C1 oil every 3 to 4000 miles.

Use genuine fuel filter and if not sure when last changed I would change.

Replace air filters annualy, not expensive and easy to do yourself.

Use a good quality diesel additive to keep the injectors working properly and clear of gum and carbon deposits. I use dipetane or Cetane plus and always use premium fuel. I doubt I need the premium fuel and additives but I love my car and it's not that expensive and gives me peace of mind.

I also use ZX extralube every 3rd oil change which I swear by. There is a colleague at work with a 2015 L405 4.4 TDV8 and he can't believe how much quieter my engine is VS his.

I hope you enjoy L322 ownership. This was my first ever 2 1/2 years ago and I couldn't be happier despite the running costs and risk of expensive repairs.

I recently purchased my other half a 2019 Q5 which she really wanted. It will lose circa £4000 per year so my FFRR is actually really good value (and nicer to drive).

They talk a good game - when they sell you the policy. Geoff

I took out a policy with them when bought my 2012 Westie.

It had about 70K on it and they were happy that with a good service history they were prepared to up my cover to the next level even though that is only usually available to cars under 10 years old.

I have so far only needed to claim for a new starter and have to say they were great. Dealt direct with my local garage and settled the claim within 24 hours.

Just my experience but thought I should balance the negative comments left so far with, I have to say, no detail as to why.

Cheers

After reading of peoples experience on here and other forums I wouldn't go anywhere near them....

Small claims approved, large claims and they have a team of people to badger you until you give in or they create so much stress it's not worth pursuing the claim...!!!

Just my 2p... Pete

Think they are all rather hit or miss tbh. I have a bolt onto my aa cover that allows up to £500 per claim and 4 or 5 claims per year , it’s been great had 2 x alternators over the years and various Porsche parts replaced . 2019 SV AB Dynamic Scafel Grey

Wow, thank you so much everyone taking time to reply.

I didn't know about the AA deal - it's called 'Parts and Garage Cover' - and claims to cover parts at roadside or repairs with contribution at garage costs upto £535.

Got a quote for £81 annual fee which includes National Recovery to any UK destination and At Home breakdown cover which seems tempting as I was going to arrange breakdown cover anyway.

Warranty cover is such a dilemma with personal attitude to risk, personal circumstances and peace of mind. Thank you again!
