Project 2-Change Auxiliary Batter, A Big Surprise

I moved on to my second project on the 2016 AB. I knew the auxiliary battery was low and when the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel stopped working, assumed that is the cause. I proceeded to remove the interior panel in the trunk after removing the incredibly annoying brackets from the previous owner’s dog barrier. When I did I had a big surprise. What I didn’t find was a 15Ah start stop battery but a much larger battery with no label on the side. It was far more difficult to remove than expected. I guess JLR wanted to ensure King Kong couldn’t rip it out. After removing this monster I looked at the label on top. I’ve attached a pic. The part number is FK72-10655-AC, 12 V, 70 Ah, 760 A. I tested it and it is dead as a doornail. Googled it and I can’t find a reference to this part number anywhere. I did find a FFRR post which had a similar battery, 10655-BA, a cold weather battery. That makes sense as mine was originally registered in Luxembourg. I live in Romania (where it’s still snowing in April!), so it’s much appreciated. He replaced his battery with an Exide EK700. I think this will work for mine. Think. Not exactly sure. Has anyone seen or heard of this battery with a weird JLR part number?

Thanks! I didn’t realize it is alright to use a battery with different specifications for auxiliary. Is it simply a better battery than the 70Ah?

Ah, I missed the Aux battery part. Its been a long week Embarassed

I did think 760A was a bit low for a main battery

But the EK700 is a direct replacement for the aux battery Thumbs Up

The original auxiliary battery is 15Ah and the part number is CX23-10C655-AC

The Exide code is EK151. The dimensions are 150x145x90mm.

The EK700 is way too big (278x190x175mm)! And it has 75 Ah, the main battery being 95Ah... Are you sure the previous owner didn't improvise?

I honestly can't imagine how he stuck it in there:

Or maybe they used different aux batteries for the SDV8?
🤔

@Adara:
What’s the liquid reservoir to the left of the battery?
(I am a lesser mortal with simple Vogue specification)
Aha! Is it fresh orange juice reservoir for the Bucks’ Fizz dispensers to the rear Executive Seats in conjunction with the Dom Perignon reservoir behind the opposite panel on the left side of the luggage compartment? Silly me, I should have known! Whistle

I would hope there is a red warning dash bottle icon when supplies are critical Shocked Very Happy “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

You're exaggerating, of course—it's merely the coolant expansion tank for the champagne bottles refrigerator. Naturally, you'll need to supply those yourself once the warranty expires!

Joke aside, I drive a PHEV, for better or worse, and this is actually the cooling circuit for the battery. As it has a life of its own, it's always amusing when people approach the car, perplexed by the strange noises coming from the rear. They simply can't fathom what's happening...

I have the automatic Capri Sun squeezers for the kids in the back seat. It cost me $5000 to recalibrate them to each child’s preferred rate of juice consumption. The pellet dispensers were also empty for the rear cargo area, part of the pet restraint system. On a serious note, the previous owner had installed a OEM dog cage on the back. Why in the hell did JLR make it capable of restraining a lion? Seriously. Getting that thing unbolted and out was a project in itself. I had to remove another dog cage bracket just to remove the interior piece in the trunk to bust my thumb removing the auxiliary battery. Fun cars to work on. 😂
