No audio, no display.

Hi, 2006 4.2SC. I’ve lost all audio, the touchscreen is completely dead and have this fault via GAP tool. All similar posts and threads seem to be where the display permanently shows the LandRover logo and/or the red power led but mine is completely dead. I’ve checked all the fuses with the radio/headphone symbol in the glove box. For six months or so I’ve had a crack/poping sound from one of the back speakers once or twice just before or shortly after startup and a buzzing sound for short periods from the central dash area, both these noises have stopped. Thinking water ingress in the boot area though looks dry and dusty I haven’t had a proper look down the back or at any connections. Which module is the audio unit, one of those in the boot or behind the screen in the dash?

Thank you,
John.

Follow up. On closer inspection, yes there does seem to be minor water ingress in the boot. Looped the fibre on the Nokia Bluetooth module, no change. Consensus of opinion on other forums it’s probably the amp. Very difficult to see if there was evidence of water damage to the amp in situ and what a pain to remove it. All the other components have to come out and all the wiring looms/connectors pulled out of the way before the bracket with it and the TV tuner are on can come out. No evidence of water damage on any of the connectors and only a small water stain on the top edge. Opened it up and found a couple of very small areas of corrosion so going to get a second hand replacement, am I correct to say better get one out of a Discovery as they’re under the seat and less likely to have had water ingress? Also with everything removed and unplugged, with the ignition on, should one of the fibres from the front be lit?
Thank you, John.

John, I have exactly the same symptoms on mine, no life in the screen and no orange power light and no visible light from the fibre optics either although the buttons do light up when the lights are on, the previous owner changed the amp to no avail, im not sure if that needs coding to the rest of the system now or not? i do have a new touch screen that came with the car as well as the original amp,
i am currently plucking up the courage to take everything out of the boot like you have done and hopefully find something a miss, there is some corrosion to a couple of the boxes so am feeling hopeful,

Varks74, I bought another amp from eBay out of a L320, figuring as they’re under the seat it shouldn’t be water damaged. Have had it for a while, have now got a hybrid TV module too as mine was analog only. Cleaned some rust off a couple of the mounting brackets and painted them last night, going to have a go at refitting all tonight, I’ll post an update when I’m done.

good luck, I will try and find time over the weekend to sort mine out, I have a spare amp and screen, the previous owner changed the amp to no avail, hoping i find something obvious in the rear before having to strip the dash down to get to the touch screen,
