L405 285/45R22 Pirelli Scorpion Verde

There are many threads on this and here is mine.

My RR came with 275/40R22 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires from the original owner. I used them for four summer seasons, but always removed them early fall for my winter tires. These tires grip well, but do not fit the Range Rover personality.

Enter this year and deciding to find some RAM truck Pirelli Scorpion Verde takeoffs in 285/45R22 on FB marketplace for $1,000 🇨🇦. They completely transform the ride and have lower road noise, even without being the quieter version. MY wife even noticed the difference and she doesn’t care about vehicles. There is a tiny rub on something plastic at FULL lock only in a parking lot, but only in normal and off-road height.

If you are thinking about making the change to this size, do it.

I totally agree with you Dan. I am running Continental Premium Contact in 285/45R22 size and highly rate them. Really nice ride characteristics and I love the combination of having 22” wheels but still a decent sidewall (especially as the potholes are now sufficiently large to consider selecting low range and rock crawl).

I have no rubbing at all even on full lock at access mode, but it is close.

I have changed the tyre on my space saver spare from 195/70R20 to 195/75R20 to maintain the correct diameter.

Why would you change the spare to that size sir? That’s not the same size as the 285/45/22? Or did you think it was?

That is the spare tyre size on the L460 that is supplied with 285/45R22 tyres.

I have a full size spare and was curious if the 285/45R22 would fit in there. I may look for a single tire and swap out the spare.

My winters are smaller so I would need a 20” winter tire too. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

Just something to bear in mind - raising the aspect ratio, increases the rolling radius, which increases the gearing, and DOES dull acceleration. I have learned this from experience, nothing to worry about, but something to consider as the impact is greater the lower the BHP of the engine…. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

@Stan:

Surely you mean the speedo will actually be more accurate? Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

This could really be a THING, I like the idea of big wheels, but more comfy Very Happy

But, what about insurance, etc.? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

The speedo now reads the same as the GPS so there is now zero difference in indicated/actual speed. I think the factory speedos are all calibrated on the low side and I understand that is usual to do so.

You no longer have a margin of ‘error’ when sticking to a speed limit. But 3mph at 70mph is still only a minor margin.
