United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Autobiography TDV6 Santorini Black
Erratic drive

Really strange behaviour from L460 P460E tonight…EV battery fully depleted after long drive, parked up for a few hours and then on journey home:

High tickover (1000rpm)
Snatchy transmission in crawling traffic and when held on brakes in stationary traffic, could feel slightly lumpy tickover through interior.
Auto stop start not cutting engine when stationary
When coasting, I expected, as usually happens, the engine revs to drop to zero and the power meter to swing slightly into the green as car is recapturing charge for EV…but this didn’t happen. Engine remained at minimum 1000rpm for drive home of 16 miles.
When parked up at home exhaust heat shield ticking madly as it cools..not something I’ve noticed before.
Does the CAT have a cleaning or purge cycle maybe and keeps engine revs high? Any other thoughts?
I’m sure I’ve driven before with fully depleted EV battery and not noticed any of the above. L460 460e PHEV AB. Belgravia green.

Not dissimilar symptoms to my previous P440e.

It my case it was an HV coolant heater that was up the swanny.

Apparently it was a known issue of a Bosch part that was failing in EVs across a number of OEMs.

I had it replaced under warranty and all was good.

The day it started playing up I had done a days worth of driving and decided to put the EV element on save. So in other words I was driving on petrol and no EV battery all day too.

It might not be the same issue but if it is, you need it sorted before the car goes into total failure.

(One symptom I recall was that when I was stopped on an incline the car started rolling backwards between releasing my foot off the brake and pressing the accelerator and then it would jump forwards when starting to pull away - might be worth checking if yours does the same).

Good luck!

If the engine hasn't run for a number of days and it starts due to hard throttle or lack of charge it will stay running until it decides the engine has been run for long enough. My case up to 20 miles. Stop start will not function or coasting.

I only noticed this behaviour after having HV heater replaced. Maybe updated software?
