Spain 2003 Range Rover HSE Td6 Sumatra Black
Brain meltdown over no sound

Hi to all,

I’ll keep this as short and factual as I can!

HSE 2002 TD6

Exiting audio consisted of,

Early slimline LCD display with small black plug connector marked ‘amp’.

Single CD player mounted above display with single black cable (fibre optic?) and a large black plug with NO white or blue small plugs attached (although the pins are present on the CD unit itself.

Multi CD unit in the glove box with three pin (cable) connection and again a single black cable (fibre optic?) attached.

Boot amplifier is a Lear XQK 000030 unit with three multi wire connectors so I’m assuming that is a DSP unit (also large sub woofer in the same area)

LCD display mostly blacked out and although it turned on and off no other functions seemed to work.

Decided to fit a new Android head unit, so removed old CD unit, display unit and glovebox unit and fitted new head unit using the new plug connectors supplied. All good….everything works, bus, steering wheel controls the lot….however there seemed to be no facility to connect the small black plug marked amp on the new unit……it’s just left disconnected. There is also no sound from any of the speakers….nothing at all!

I assume that the DSP isn’t either getting power and/or a signal from the new head unit and that I (obviously) need to do something with the small black amp plug….but what?!

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Fuses all checked and good, no apparent moisture issues etc. I’ve scoured the internet but all of the head units I’ve found are the full screen type….not the X5 throwback (I assume) I have.

Photos can be supplied if needed…..many thanks in anticipation! Present cars.

Can’t help directly, but your car is too early for fibre, it uses the BMW iBus system.

Hope this helps in your search. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I’m not sure you have DSP, that’s normally a black unit.

Have you got a copy of RAVE? That will have electrical diagrams and procedures etc.

Not sure if it’s available in the Wiki?

Is any of this any help?

It’s for replacing a system with the screen, but you should see similar?

Update.

Thanks to all for the replies…..here’s an update that may (or not)help others!

I watched countless videos and checked out everything I could find on this problem, I definitely have the DSP amp (XQK-000030) as I cross referenced it on the net. I came across a video which showed a Resler USB i-Bus reader connected to the Android unit on an X5 of the same year as mine. The Resler website says this will also happily work on L322 vehicles 2002-04 as the electronics are basically BMW! Importantly….the ‘redundant’ plug that they hard wired it into matched the one I have in terms of pin configuration and wire colours. Given the added benefits it gives you I’ve bitten the bullet and ordered one up. Another forum post claimed that fitting this Resler unit will also send an I-Bus signal to trigger the amp from the head unit and hopefully fire up the speakers…….if this doesn’t happen I do have a fall back which I’ll detail as and when. Thanks. Present cars.
