I've had my day date for a good while now, it was a final gift from my wife before she passed away at a far too young age.

Re; servicing, I didn't bother until the seal on the winder leaked causing damage to some parts inside. That was an expensive lesson as it cost me £3,600 to get it repaired, it did look like new when I got it back though.

My biggest regret was selling my Rolex Milsub for just £25 when I left the UK Forces as I was short of money back then. They fetch a staggering amount nowadays. You live & learn.

I bought a bimetal Omega Constellation in the 90s that I still have (Don't remember how much, maybe £1800, I paid in Deutschmarks as they were cheaper in Germany back then for some reason). About 2000, I bought a blue face Rolex bi-metal Submariner when they first came out (about £6k then, imported from the UAE, much more now). Still have that too as my 'daily'.

I had the Constellation fettled a while back even though I don't really wear it now, I might give it to my lad on his 21st in a couple of years as he has been coveting it.

My Rolex is a bit tired after 20-odd years of wear. It's been serviced a couple of times but now one of the gold links is wearing away at the pivot point, it's overdue to go in somewhere to be fettled too.

If anyone knows a good Rolex cosmetic fettling place I'm all ears. Lot's of places online, but I'm a bit wary about sending it off to some place - I might never see it again.

Since I wrote the post above, I have found a *superb* watch repair place in Hong Kong. I drop mine in and collect them personally when I'm there, but most people send them in from all over the world. They rebuilt the strap on my Omega (which nobody else could) and also rebuilt the bracelet on my Rolex mentioned upthread. Their site is >here<.

They have my Grandfather's vintage Accurist and a Russian-made Sekonda in for fettling now. The former, watchmakers here since the 80s have told me is unfixable and kaput. They looked at it and said, "no problem".

I just recently bought a automatic winding up thingy that runs on a USB from Ali Express for twenty odd quid. And its super. You can see it working on my Insta >here< 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

The chap I used is in Lymm, Cheshire. Should be easy to Google. He's very good and I would certainly recommend him.
