Strange climate control issue

I have been struggling for a couple of years now to get to the bottom of a strange climate control issue.

After the car has been running for half an hour or so the climate appears to stop working, when I say stops working, the fans are still running but nothing is coming out of the vents at all. Any of the vents. Moving to face, foot or screen makes no change. Switch off the ac for a period of time And it works again.

The issue is evident on both cold and hot air.

Car has been into a couple of different indies that couldn’t resolve (don’t really seem interested to be honest) and my usual go to air con guy won’t touch it (because it’s a Range Rover). Not very helpful!

I swapped the hevac panel with a known good
one from another car but issue persists.

No faults registered when reading with IID.

I’m thinking that perhaps the evaporator may be freezing up which reducing the air flow but that’s a guess for an uneducated me!

Looking at live values with IID I’m not seeing anything obvious but haven’t got much to compare them to in terms of the things like pressures and temps etc.

I replaced the air con compressor a few years ago to fix the usual slow starting air con so I’m hoping it’s not that again. Clutch is engaging and I am getting cold when I need it for the first 30
Minutes or so.

Has been regassed a couple of times over the pass 2 years, no leaks found and correct amount of refrigerant back in again.

I’m lost on what to try next so any suggestions from the experts, and the not so much experts on here would be very much appreciated.

This happened to me on a particularly hot day max 38oC driving through the Karoo about 8 hours into my journey home with about 2 hours more to go. All the fans blowing, no air coming out! Very uncomfortable!

Didn't happen again until the next summer.

Asked around, tried a few things, happened every other hot day.

Then someone suggested to re-gas the thing! A month later I went on a two week trip into the Kalahari, the days maxed out at over 40oC and the aircon had no problems it was icy cold inside the whole time. 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Sorry should have said that it’s been regassed a couple of time in the time I have had the issue and confirmed the correct volume of refrigerant used.

When I did the re-gas they had a very sophisticated machine which was able to measure the amount of refrigerant and dye inserted with a bunch of other metrics. It then also provides a report. If you can get the same done back to back you may be able to determine if there is a leak. And if they included dye in the refrigerant they can trace the leak. Good luck. 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Is there any difference when on recirc? Presumably the cabin air filter has been checked.

Recirc doesn’t make any difference when the issue is evident. When running OK then record does the usual and helps speed up the cool down or warm up and eventually steams the car up! lol

I chnage the cabin filter religiously with every service so the equivalent of a couple of time a year usually.

@deejay - where I had the air con gassed last gave me a report of exactly how much they vacuumed out and again how much they reinserted and both figures were exact to factory specs. The time before when I had it done I asked for a UV due to be added as well and we have never had evidence of any escape. So I’m pretty confident it isn’t a refrigerant leak.

Similar issue with mine. Blower blowing, but all vent doors are closed.
Replace CC module, no help, same issue.
I fix it brutally at the moment, just open manually doors by disconnect from motors. Windscreen and foot doors remain always open now.
