L405 door speaker upgrade

I have the 825w system I believe - how do I confirm?

The sound is severely lacking in the base department (especially compared to my old x5 which was excellent from the factory). I understand that replacing the mids in the doors can have a big impact, has anyone done? Any recommendations on speakers etc?

There doesn’t seem to be much on the forum on the topic..

There is some stuff on here, so keep searching, perhaps Stan can help?
Also worth checking out Powerful UK, who have done upgrade kits & videos in the past, but seem to have lost interest in the L405 of late.

Personally, I find overblown bass annoying frankly, but then again I’m an old f*rt, so the first thing I do is get in the fullfat and turn the damn stereo OFF, and relax in the sublime peace & quiet! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter A bit of Vivaldi is sometimes nice tho’, and needs good dynamic range….. Very Happy

Today, I passed a small hatchback car Northbound on the A19 near Stockton, with HUUUUUGE bass thumping out, shame he couldn’t hear that he was dragging half of his exhaust system behind in a shower of sparks, in an extremely dangerous fashion! Shocked Rolling Eyes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

😂 thanks. You sound like my dad, he never had the radio turned on in his cars.

I’m an old fart too! I just want a bit of base, there’s hardly any in the standard set up. From doing some research it sounds like the speakers are ok, the door just needs a lot of sound deadening.

I’ll search some more.

Ps I have contacted that company not heard back yet 👍

Check out YouTube videos from Powerful UK, there’s a “How to” video of exactly what you are wanting to do Thumbs Up

Also maybe have a look at their website for speaker kits? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Yep, I’ve seen the videos 👍 I checked the website and the top of the line speakers are out of stock - no stock anywhere.

Perhaps go a little deeper into the settings as I’ve got the 1700w and thought it’s ok but nothing special it turned out 3D and meridian was switched off now it’ll rattle the fillings out of my teeth 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

Ah! Idea

Sorry OP, I just realised that you already have the 825W, not the 380W system.
You can’t “upgrade” the 825W system simply by changing the speakers, forget it.
The speakers thing is only 380W>825W.
To upgrade to the “Signature” system is far more involved and expensive.
I find my basic 380W system has thumping bass if configured correctly, and the 825W system is even more so. Perhaps someone has disconnected the sub-woofer in the boot, or there is water ingress? It happens. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Thanks both. I need to double check that I have the 825w as I don’t remember seeing a sub in the boot.

I’ll also check the settings 👍

For the 380W system, the sub is in the dash, not sure where for the other systems, nothing shown in the boot in the WM. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I’ve just check the build sheet and it’s got option 025LN which I believe is the 825w system. I need to check the sub and settings and go from there.

Seems they all have the SAME subwoofer in the dash, not in the boot, according to the WM above. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Unless that only applies to new cars. 🤷‍♂️

I can’t remember where I came across the link now.

Ok, I’ve got the speakers in the boot, but I can’t find a sub. So that’s the central dash one?

Went into settings and “stereo” was selected. I have changed that to “meridian” and the sound seems much improved.
