Mad or Genius?

Recently acquired a 2011 Vogue TDV8, 107,000 miles. Largely complete service history, previous owner states no problems with the car. The plan is to rack up a load of pan-european miles this year (work related trips), to save my other car some depreciation.

Half of me thinks "that's genius", and the other half thinks "stupid, it will break down!".

When I bought it, Harfords 4x4 (Chippenham) put it through an MOT and they replaced a rear suspension strut that was an advisory. They told me there were no fault codes. Turned out they messed up the tracking of the wheel when they replaced the strut, which caused ABS, EBA and SAS lights to come on, so I've had the guys at Bespoke Offroad (Enstone) sort it and they seem to think it's not a bad car, but it is after all, a Land Rover...

Sorting out a few bits at the moment... rear washer no-return valve is Censored , sticky seatbelts, CarPlay screen etc., but is there anything I should be double-double checking, before I set off on some pan-european travels?

Or do you think I'm stupid? Smile
(I expect a biased response!)

Go for it. As long as you have decent recovery cover then it's all good.

If I ever have mine back on the road then I am booking a continental road trip shortly thereafter.

No fears personally, take the usual spares inc serpentine belt, coolant, oil etc as specialist oils etc may not be in every shop.

Euro garages very familiar with the L322 and should be able to cope with anything.

Go for it and enjoy it.

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Used to take my 322’s to the south of France and the Alps regularly. Only broke down once……

They were fresher back then.

On a 4.4 I would try to get the following done as service items/preventative maintenance:

Gearbox Oil change
Full service
Aux belts, they are supposed to last 10 years but will probably not have been done if it was out of MD services.
Belt tensioner and any suspect pulleys.
Check the oil cooler for leaks/oil in coolant.
Check if the o-rings on the turbo feed are leaking (cheap fix)
Get all the brake calipers checked over and rear calipers carriers cleaned and re fitted.
Check it has had the short hoses to the manifold donut/plenum replaced with the smooth ones. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Whichever car you take has the ability to breakdown. No matter how much preventative maintenance you do there can always be something that'll break.

Give everything a good going over, replace everything that's not quite right now and just head off on your trip in comfort. Make sure you've got European breakdown cover in place and enjoy the miles you cover.

I'd not hesitate to take either of our L322's on a massive European road trip. Just wish I could convince the wife to do a European road trip to take it on! Laughing

In 2012 we took a 1992 4.2 LSE Classic to Southern Spain and back. Covered nearly 4000 miles in 3 weeks and it didn’t miss a beat.

That ran on LPG as well. Topped both the LPG (150 litre capacity) and the petrol tank to capacity and when I got off the boat at Calais had a potential range of 900 miles. Not bad for a 4.2 V8.
