United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
External lights permanently on.

2005 Vogue TD6. Started up yesterday and left to defrost. Returned to car to find stop and tail lights flashing continuously.
After looking on the forum, I disconnected the battery, shorted the leads and reconnected after half an hour or so. Now the left front headlamp and right rear indicator are permanently on, and when I start up the stop and tail lights come on as well (not flashing now). Operating the master lighting switch or dip/main has no effect.
Code reader says communication error with front lighting control module - any ideas (where is the module)? Thanks, Gerry.

Fairly sure it will be a failing lighting control module. It’s located to the right of the accelerator pedal behind the plastic panel where the bonnet release lever is. The usual problem is water ingress.

Many thanks, I have a complete L322 for spares (sadly, previously my daily driver!). Do you know if a replacement module will need to be "initialised" as the workshop manual puts it? Gerry.

Quite a while since I changed mine, but as far as I recall they are interchangeable but it does something with the recorded mileage on the instrument cluster, perhaps puts a dot against the mileage to show something has been tampered with.

Thanks again! Looks like a job for the weekend, as the washing machine has packed up, and apparently it has priority Sad

Just an update; checked the lights on the donor vehicle - all okay.
Swapped the lighting module over. Hey presto everything works normally - except the indicators!
I had checked the part numbers on the units, and they are different, although the multiplugs are the same. At least I know I'm on the right track, and I can see both part numbers listed on ebay.
Once again, thanks Dtech.

Fatty off roader displayed the same problems after being drowned in a river, I took the LCM out, then apart and scrubbed everything with deionised water, then blasted it with an electrical cleaner, then stuck it in the airing cupboard for a day... Hey presto, worked again....

Worth a try before sending money Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks Pete, I'd acclimatised the original unit in the living room for a couple of days, and then reconnected it, without success.
I did the same with the unit out of my garden ornament, but the contacts look a bit shonky! Picked up a tin of contact cleaner today and will give it a bash.
As you say, no point in throwing a hundred and fifty quid away!
