To do a hotwire button for a starter is so dead simple, that if you have to ask how to do it, then don´t do it. -07 Stornoway Gray TDV8

Mr K, I know very well how to make a direct connection from a switch to the starter motor. What I don't know about this car is whether this will affect any electronics or whether errors will appear on the dashboard. That's my question but nothing

How would it know that there is an extra live cable? Starters usually have 2 cables, a thick one for juice and a thin one from ignition switch. Now you are adding another live from an extra switch for some reason, I did that for my Pajero due to irregular problems with transmission neutral switch, which was preventing the car to start from a key.

So if you have problems with your ignition switch or tranny neutral switch and don´t want to change those, that´ll do it, if it´s not happy with some ECU preventing it to start, then it most likely will not be any happier after the mod. -07 Stornoway Gray TDV8

Mr. KF
My problem is not the start-up. It even starts very well. The problem comes later for some reason that I don't know and don't even know how to detect, because the bendix sometimes doesn't pick up and rubs against the flywheel rack or doesn't engage in the rack.
Now I decided to put a start button directly to the starter with a solenoid and fuse. It may not return to the same thing.

Uhm, you do know that the TD6 IDE & EWS modules are designed to prevent theft and need to talk to each other to allow the starter to crank ?

When a key goes into the ignition barrel the EWS initiates an exchange with the key (via the ring antenna around the top of the ignition barrel) to validate the key AND retrieve the rolling code that got stored in it (the key) after the last successful start. If the key is registered the ignition barrel gets unlocked, then if the rolling code is correct AND the IDE & EWS rolling code is in sync, the EWS switches an internal relay that allows the start signal to pass to the starter solenoid when the key goes to position III.

You need to study the BMW EWS3 protection system if you want to emulate the storage and exchanges before switching the ignition to position II then III.

Surely that can’t be the case with a rolling code being stored on the key and that needing to be in sync? If it was, you wouldn’t be able to use a second key!

By your description of starter not engaging . Sounds as though teeth could be damaged on the flywheel ring gear, or starter motor pinion.

Rolling codes are maintained by the EWS for 4 of the key IDs that may be active at any one time (from the 10 key IDs assigned to the EWS by the manufacturer). Data is exchanged by RFID and the keys get a new code calculated from a builtin algorithm ~10s after each successful start. IDE & EWS advance to the next code in a table that was passed from the EWS to the IDE at its first bootup.

Anti Drive Away protection (EWS are the first letters in German) is NOT supposed to be easy to get around.
